Saturday , opening day of Florida archery season, a 16 yr old boy that was in a tree stand mistakes another hunter for a deer, and
shoots him thru the top of his shoulder with a expandable broad head, When the man that was shot, started yelling " Iam not a deer" the 16 year old climbed down from his stand and fled the seen. The 16 yr old turned his self in later. The man that was shot was life flighted to the Hospital , and will survive.
This happend in Santa Rosa county , in the Blackwater WLMA.
The incident is under investigation and charges are pending.

Wow! I can't imagine how anyone could shoot someone with a bow by mistake.

I hunted Blackwater one time while living in Pensacola for 20 years, that was enough for me.

I turkey hunted that place one year on opening week. I didnt see amyone or a dang bird. There are a ton of bobcats on that place. Several times there were cat tracks inside my boot tracks. Freaked me out.

Any hunter that shoots someone by "accident" should loose their hunting privileges. They are a DA. I've never pulled the trigger on something I wasn't 100% sure was a deer. I've never released an arrow on something I wasn't 100% sure was a deer. These people are careless, and shouldn't be able to hunt. I just can't see how someone could mistake a person for a deer, even if the person is wearing camo.

Not to mention the shooter fled.....glad he survived

I agree. How stupid do you have to be to mistake someone for a deer and shoot them with a BOW? 30 yards away??? Even a 16 year old should be prosecuted for that.

Around here that is what Blackwater WMA is known for,everyone there has the brown it's down mentality. Archery is the only time they can shoot does in there so they dont feel the need to "verify" what they are shooting buck or doe wise. I hunted there once and that was enough for me.

Yes, but you can get a license 1 time without the hunters education course as long as you are accompanied by an adult.

Heck where I grew up in VA, a guy caught one of his buddies screwing his wife. 2 days later he rolled his arse out of his tree stand with a .300 win mag...
