I have a buddy with property in Marengo and Wilcox county. He said they seen them ocassionally in the 90's. Said they were very dumb and had to pull up and bump one with the truck bumper once on his property to get it to move out of the way.
Id love to see pics.

I bet you thought $&##%@#&*$&@ when you first saw him!!!! That's awesome man, my dad went to college in livingston and said they had some running around down there in the early 70's. First time he saw one he made a promise to himself he'd never drink again, then he realized it really was a fallow deer he was looking at. Congrats again buddy

Drummons have a high fence all the way round their property. It is located right across the road from Forever wild or the old State cattle ranch. Do not know if they have any fallow deer on their property or not.

Congrats on a very unique buck! I killed a couple of fallow bucks near Millers Ferry back in the 70s. One had 18 pts and the other 14. They were much flatter than the antlerson yours, and really didnt look like him at all.

I have seen some picture of typical fallow antlers, most of them get wide (front to back)and web like. These started to get like that, but something makes me wonder if this could be a product of a whitetail/fallow breeding. Although i have been told that they will not breed together, consider if you are a lonley fallow walking around, and you see a hot doe whitetail, and possibly a few beers later..magic could happen. I'm hoping to get some insight from a wildlife biologist or maybe someone that knows a lot about the fallow There were several killed in the Camden area back in the 70s that showed characteristics that would indicate a cross between a fallow and a whitetail. I know that a whitetail buck will breed a mule deer doe, and have read several articles about the detrimental effect that is having on the mule deer population in areas where they overlap. The mule deer buck is not aggressive enough to breed a whitetail doe, but the whitetail buck has no problem with the mule deer doe. I'd think they'd have no problem handling a fallow doe either. It would be interesting to find out if this deer is a cross. I've often wondered if the fallow does getting bred by whitetail bucks was partly responsible for the fallow deer decline in Wilcox Co. Any hybrid would be sterile, and it may be that the whitetail bucks had as much to do with their disappearance as hunters. Here's the antlers from my largest fallow. I've seen some that were much larger. As you can see, they look a lot different from CWolbach's deer.

I thought that Auburn put out some mutated hybrid deer back in the 80's here is West Alabama near the Sipsey Valley area. They are supposed to grow twice as fast as your average deer and have a larger body than the pure whitetail. They have characteristics of Red deer, Fallow and whitetail. Anyone seen one around the Pickens/Tuscaloosa area?

My dad hunts down there with y'all at Bucksnort. I came down there with him a few times last year when I was on leave with the military. I like the club and the people. Wish I would've gotten in this year!

Fallow and whitetail canot cross. The whitetail buck may try it, but the sperm will not take.
Fallow are an old world deer, their genetic makeup is very different. Muleys and whitetail are new world deer, and their genetics are very close. Hope this helps You inspired me to look around and read several articles on the subject. Looks like the old hunters from Wilcox Co back in the 70s were wrong - the whitetail and fallow won't cross, I guess there is just a lot of variation in fallow deer, and most of us don't see enough of them to realize it. Thanks for correcting my bad guess.

I Talked to the guy who had the 3 deer in a pen and showed him this picture. He said it is one of his that got out. He said a tree fell on the fence of his 5 acre pen and they got out and only one has come back, so there is another one out there. He did say they were tame enough that his grandchildren hand feed them through the fence.
