My buddy shot (bow kill) a free range fallow deer this morning in Hale County. We're trying to figure out if it is a truly wild animal or if it just escaped from a nearby high fence operation. Apparently, the processor said they have not seen one in years - which could be indicative that it is wild since processors are pretty keen on who kills what in the area. Anyways, it is probably a high fence deer but still a great trophy. Thoughts from anyone familiar with the area?

I have owned land and hunted Hale Co. (Sawyerville) for the last 20 years, and have never heard of one seen or killed in this area.
I do not know of any high fences around, not saying there aint one though. This is probably not much help, but I find it interesting, since I hunt this area.

I saw a wild one back in '79 just north of Safford, Alabama in Perry county. It was feeding in a wide open soy bean field. That's the only one since and have never heard of one being shot in the area. They used to kill them around Camden back in the 70's also and I imagine that where this wondered up from. It was cool to see.

A guy outside of Uniontown got a large hole in his high fence back fifteen or so years ago and a bunch of Fallow deer and I think a few Red Stag got out, there was a Fallow that would feed in the pastures between Big Prairie Creek and Stillwater Machine.
