Can an HDMI cable go bad? Last night the sound on my tv went out. I hooked cable directly to tv from wall and had sound, played the tuner on the receiver and had sound. I figure it has to be the cable box or and cable but I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot further. I just wondered if anyone else has had that kind of issue.

Yes, HDMI can go bad.

HDMI's do go bad. I've replaced mine twice in the past couple of years. I would bet that's your problem.

Yes, they can go bad. Had it happen once before with a lower quality HDMI cable I got from work. Try another one and see if you get sound back. If not, its probably your cable box.

This is why you buy nice cables. I've had the same ones for about 5 years and no problems and have moved 4 times.

I'd be hard pressed to justify paying $80 for a 3ft monster HDMI cable when a $20 one would work (I often get free ones from the Service provider during install...) I guess durability could be a factor, but I've yet to experience it. Does the cable run have a very sharp angle or turn? I'd suspect the connectors. Perhaps the cable has a manufacturer's warranty?

I spent the extra money on the nice cables when I bought my home theater setup. I got the optical cable and all. And there is a difference as far as how has the cables transmit the signal
