Most people that "drop out" of college actually were flunking out. Yes there are all kinds of reasons people leave college but those that quit usually do it because they are failing. And you really don't get to the difficult classes until later in your degree so if you flunk out in year one, you never saw the "hard" 400 level classes.
And yes, there are easy majors and there there are difficult majors that "weed out" those that can't pass the challenging classes.
Nothing personal, some folks are talented at math or problem solving or science and others are very skillful with motors, using their hands etc.
It takes all kinds in this world. The real talent is to know what skill set you have and would enjoy pursuing rather than wasting time and money on something else.

It would be nice if schools promoted individuals than trying to lump them and make them conform. Schools are great for indoctrination and why the leftist want all control.

To answer the OP's question I told them I would pay for college if they worked for their living expenses. They both worked and went to school. I put them both through school and they both have good jobs. I called one of them every morning on MY way to work to make sure they went to class and if they were struggling I hired them a tutor.
Say or think what you want about me.... but know that I don't play.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

I live in mobile. I, my wife, and both our kids graduated from private school. Both the wife and I attended public school first. If private school was not available here we probably would have homeschooled ours. BUT, I will say that the home school families I know don't do it well. They did not prepare the kids for the rigors of college. The parents did not keep the kids on a schedule. It was more like school was done in the spare time. But I know that may not be typical Rigors of college? You pay show up sometimes ,and get a degree. Not in engineering What degree did you get? How many people you know that flunked out of college? Not dropped out, fluked out, were told they couldn't get a degrer. The answer zero, you keep paying and you get to stay, and eventually get that degree. Weather you learned anything or not. I've heard the athletes with four years of high school English, and PASSED two years of college English and couldn't write a sentence if you doubled their nil! I had a 4.0 at a community College for a year. Unlike most people who go to college, I had to pay 100% out of my pocket. No help from parents or government. After a year I failed to see the advantage of paying for something I would never use. Dropped out and got a job, which is exactly what most people would do if they had to pay for it on their own. The few that did , got loans and now they don't want to pay them. Hmmm I lost pride about 30 years ago. I failed out, and I’ll admit it. Heck there’s a guy or 2 on here that saw it…alhawk can attest. I learned a lot though, about life, about working, about folks in general. I have always been a terrible student. I was in the gifted program in high school, did pretty well on all those placement test they gave. Yall wouldn’t believe me if I told you what I made on my IQ test. But IQ doesn’t relate to grades, it’s your ability to learn. I’m glad for my experience in college, but college isn’t for everyone…. That’s what the dean told me as he was telling me not to come back.

Very few people are equipped to start a successful business when they first finish Highschool or College. Most work for others first, then they have to take a leap of faith and venture out on their own. Being successful financially can happen to anyone regardless of education level. But I will say there is nothing wrong with knowledge in any form. Some comes from books and teachers and some comes from life experiences. Both are valuable. Probably the most valuable are your mistakes!
