I know a guy that had a problem. He eliminated the problem and didn’t post anything on the internet. He has been problem free for several years now.

A life changing event if you get caught. Not exactly inexpensive even in a self defense scenario that you can prove. They’re monitored too closely to take a chance nowadays.

I can assure you guys that no one up at Camp Little Ridge is going to kill Yogi.

I have no use for a dead bear. I have other stuff to do.

Me, either. So far the ammonia has kept them out of our garbage and getting rid of bird feeders has kept them out of the back yard. One local guy was in his workshop, turned around and had one between him and the door. He shot it because he was afraid for his life, and when the game wardens investigated, they agreed and wrote their report up as a self defense event. They told the guy even though it was an obvious self defense shooting, he still needed to get a lawyer because it was still going to court. He passed away from cancer before it went to court, but it goes to show they are serious about bears.

where is the fun in that?

I vote for an electric fence charger. Maybe build a little "pond" that can sits in so bear is well grounded. And a camera is a must. Maybe multiple from different angles.

Well, nothing stopping anyone from trying it, but unless it’s modified with some kind of barrel it would be pretty underwhelming.

Was going to court for what? I don’t know a judge in the State that would find someone guilty of a crime for shooting any animal in self defense. Don’t even know a prosecutor that would prosecute such nonsense.

Get you a trail camera. For one it would just be interesting to see, the other thing is to figure out "just how big a fellow" you are dealing with here.

Don’t know. Just repeating what he said the wardens told him.

I would try to keep any food items out of the bin. Maybe try a grease trap for septic to discard grease and a if your need is evident an organic compost bin. Back pepper daily around areas anything that smells of food. Step up as the bear steps it's game up. Cayenne is good, but there are hotter peppers out there, but you are going to smell the wrath of using it. Once they get a taste of those good leftovers you and Mrs. IRISH have they will make it a nightly trip. Step out, spray his arse with 12 gauge #8 bird shot and run. flag All continues eat bear backstrap. gun rofl We don't need a lot of bears or gators, imo. Shoot it, clean it yourself. No one will know you are short one bear. Just make sure their is no gps tracker!

I haven't put any garbage back in there since Tuesday, so don't know yet. Just the two of us don't generate a lot of garbage. But I'm heading off on a motorcycle camping trip today so I'm going to throw a bag in there before I leave. It will be chained shut, chained to the wall, and ammonia poured on top, so we will see.

No bears on the camera either. I guess his nose is so good, he just cruises by and knows there's nothing in there and keeps on going to the larger group of garbage cans. They get hit almost every night now.

I’m not sure how long the ammonia is good for, but I add it the night before the garbage truck runs and haven’t had a problem since. The can stays in my garage and it stays outside overnight until it gets emptied the next day, so it’s good at least overnight.
