Weakest link is the plastic receptacle. The plastic will give but not break, unless it is extremely cold. Not much else I can do with the garbage can supplied. My hope is that the ammonia along with the other deterrents will make him want to give up before trying too hard. I need a live in Cougar and take her out to piss around the garbage can every night before she goes to bed.

Your wife might not like you having a side cougar. Aluminum garbage can with a fence charger hooked to it. Put it on rubber mat or something to keep it from being grounded. You'll light him up. We did this for a dog that was getting in the trash in Decatur and he made the mistake of peeing on it first. It was a constant charger too. So funny to hear and see the yelping going on. Never came back. Well... We are stuck with the garbage cans provided by the service. They pick them up with a grappling arm and dump them in the truck. So fa so good, but according to my motion camera no bears here last night, but he hit the other garbage cans again, and he's a pretty good sized bear according to the game cam. No. I did not aim the camera. That was my buddy Noah who did that.

One other thing we did for our remote cabin in AK was to screw screws through plywood, sticking up, then screw the plywood down in front of our doors and windows. You could probably fashion a similar perimeter around your can. Build something like this that goes all the way around the can, "framing" it .
"Why do you ask"?

A couple of those rubber slug less than lethal rounds would be much more satisfying I would think. I watched where a park ranger busted a troublesome bear with one, and it lit him up.
