Looking at taking a canoe trip up there. There's an outfitter there that runs a shuttle service. Plan on using them to take us to and from. That'll make it easy on us with one vehicle. Anyone ever been down that before? Seems there's an easy section and a challenging one (we'll be doing the easy one). Most concerned about finding a cool place to stay. Little cabin or a cool old building in one of the downtown areas would be nice. Wife really wants to stay in the silos at the Rattlesnake Saloon, but that's a solid 45 mins away. Might do that anyway if we can't find something else closer.

TIA.

It's a super fun run. We did it a few times when I was a Royal Ranger Commander.

You are going to really enjoy it.

Can't help you with a place to stay.

I’ve done it many times. The lower part would be considered the easy section. But the upper part isn’t hard, just have to portage around factory falls. The lower part has slower water and tornado damage from 2011. The Dismals Canyon has rentals and it’s just a couple of miles from the outfitter. There is also a TVA flow rate webpage that tells how much water is being released. You need at least 250 cfs

Drove past it a hundred times and never been down it. My office is only about 15 miles from it.

We live Less than a mile from it. Never don’t it myself. lol. Dismal canyon is pretty cool maybe a cabin there? Not sure if they have rentals at the Bear creek camp gound on the lake. Closest hotel probably Russelville or Hamilton. Florence is probably the best if your looking for nightlife stuff.

Grew up 3 miles from there, it’s a good float trip and has surprisingly good fishing too.

The Fuller House Bed & Breakfast in Haleyville is the only thing I know of close to there. Nothing really unique or “cool” about to but it’s only 10-min away.

Thanks. Dismal Canyon cabins look cool. Little pricey just for two people, but that's OK.

Too bad they turned the Imperial Inn into apartments. There used to be a lot of cool stuff going on there rofl

Cabins at Elliot branch are what I would recommend.

Stayed here for a fishing tourney one time. They are nice, but a little ways away. Will line up a trip soon and make a report. Looks like this weekend will be a washout.

Get up with me before you come. You do not want to come on a weekend like this one, with all the rain we have had.
