Right off the bat - not looking for anyone's spot. Been going to DI for about 7-8 years now and my son (9-year old) really wants to do some fishing. We'll be down there the end of April.
I've seen some places on the East and West end where we could do some bank/wade fishing. Especially on the bay side.
All I'm asking for is what type of lures/bait would you recommend? We are avid freshwater fisherman so the whole salt water lures, rigging, etc. has me a little lost.

Grab a couple spoons (one silver/one bronze), a pack or two Voodoo shrimp (I like the natural color), jerk bait as mentioned above, a couple pompano rigs and different size pyramid sinkers, some fresh shrimp, and you should be bound to catch something on any side you go. Voodoo shrimp lure is my go to in unfamiliar waters. I’ve caught fish in the back waters outside of Myrtle, off the beach in NC, and in the surf in the Bahamas with those things. Spoons will produce action by blind casting but they are best to have around if you see fish schooling. Pomp rigs with dead shrimp is always a good option to catch something, though it may not be as fun if you like using artificials.

Specks & reds: Live 4-5" croakers. Egg sinker, swivel, mono or flouro leader, hook.

Pompano, Whiting, catfish, whatever: Same rig or pompano rig with live or fresh dead shrimp or sand fleas. If you're on the gulf side, you might want to switch to a pyramid sinker as they tend to hold better in the surf.

Artificials: Any grub type jig, berkley gulp, voodoo, fin-S, cocahoe minnows, etc. Zara spook or sexy dawg for topwater. Heavy spoon that you can throw a mile for spanish, blues, ladyfish, and jacks.

Walk anywhere on gulf side and fish the beach early morning with croakers. Or top water or sub surface fish baits.
You’ll find them. Specks mainly.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

Fishbites dirty boxer curly tail lures and some jig heads
Silver spoons
LIve shrimp
If he just wants to catch something, cut bait or frozen shrimp/squid will catch anything that swims (may not make much of a dinner though)

Some good advice here. Sent you a PM with some more info hope it helps.

Its better to be a warrior in the garden than a gardener in war.

Some people feel the rain others just get wet.

All good advice. I like Castmaster spoons, they throw a long ways and will catch a lot of different species.
