I have found that they are most likely to gobble in the afternoon early in the season. Since they took the first 10 days, I haven't heard as many in the afternoon.
I thought it was predictable that they would gobble yesterday after the rain ended and the sun came out. I thought I heard one answer a crow yesterday about 1 pm, so I used my crow call until he gobbled again and I was certain it was a turkey. After that, it was no different than hunting in the early morning. I have also found that a turkey who will gobble in the middle of the day can usually be killed. Ones here probably didn't fly off the roost till 9 or so . Lol

Me,,,, I never cared if they gobbled or not just as long as the came .
Knowing about where he's gonna be at after lunch helps . He'll have a showing off spot.
Woodsmanship in the afternoons. Know where he wants to roost. Gobble some, very sparingly, keep your eyes and ears open, most of the time where I hunt/have hunted, they don’t say much in the afternoon. You have to know where he wants to be, get there first, be vigilant, make a good shot.

I hunt them the same exact way, as I do any time after fly down. On large tracts or public, I cover a lot of ground and use aggressive cuts/yelps to locate. On small tracts, I carefully poke into places I expect there to be a bird, & use some aggressive cuts/yelps to locate. And if I don’t strike one, I go home, go to another place, or find a comfy spot where I can hear well and try them again in an hour. Left work at 3:15 yesterday. Struck him at 3:45, dead at 3:50. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/SxZPV0cb/IMG-6826.jpg) On days like today, I enjoy going to a high spot where you can hear a long way and simply listening. When I hear one fire up, I head that way. Been my most effective afternoon strategy over the years.
