Don't the ports have their pilot or a navigator on every big ship till it clears the port area?

It looks like some folks did not survive. Fortunately it did not happen during rush hour. Thats going to screw up a traffic around there for a while. I wonder if they will start using ferries since they like fairies so much in DC. If that is the case the Capt should have dropped anchor as soon as he lost power. I don't think that is an option with a boat that big. It's an option, leaving port they should be under a special sea detail and have crew standing by the anchor for this very reason what happened.

Right. In the vid , it' looks like it was in the shipping lane and then last minute turned into it . When those light s flickered looked like it was where it's supposed to be. It looked to me it made a pretty quick turn for a ship that big. Lose power , lose steering I guess.

If they were doing what they were supposed to be doing then it obviously didn't work. Right now, this looks like an accident, I don't care what the conspiracy people say. If its an accident caused by negligence and incompetence its still an accident. This is not an attack, but you can bet the Biden administration will capitalize on it so much you will be certain that it had to be staged for them to pass a bunch of bullsh1t we don't want afterwards.

surprised that the sections that werent hit also collapsed. I watched it and thought the integrity of that bridge was apparently compromised so bad it was a matter of time before something caused the collapse. It appeared to not be structurally sound to me, but I’m no engineer.

Time to break out that M4 floating pontoon bridge...or you think some idot would drive off it? Hah! I would like to see them try it but even the Dems know that would end in nothing but lawsuits.

It appeared to not be structurally sound to me, but I’m no engineer. It's a suspension bridge. Supported from above so big ships can clear. Take out the major, mid-section and the rest can fail. The parts that didn't fail were the approaches on giant beams. No telling how many thousands of tons that ship weighed, the bridge was no match. One guy when asked how to avoid it in the future basically said to keep ships this size from hitting it. Jacksonville Fl had one hit in the 80's . They now have giant, underwater "guard rails" in case a ship goes out of control. One feller said the technology is there to monitor the ships path and if it moves off coarse lights could go off and RR crossing type bars could come down stopping traffic. Both seem like good ideas . Short of stopping big ships , there's not much can be done when something that big and heavy hits it.

That bridge was also on the national bridge index of bridges needing repair or replacement within the next 20 years. Now it got moved to the top of the list.

Don't know what condition it was in, and no way to access that from a video, but I can assure you it wasn't designed for that impact.
