Killed a couple with a bow. 2nd biggest bird I have killed was with a bow. I just dont have enough time to hunt now to want to do it anymore. Getting more and more difficult it seems to find time to get in the woods and then find a bird that wants to work.

I refuse to sit in a blind and wait for a turkey to wander by, and I'm not near good enough at turkey hunting or at bow hunting, to hunt one the way I would with a shotgun, and get a kill shot with a bow....

plus, there is something incredibly satisfying when you pull the trigger on a shotgun and feel the *thud* of the recoil, and watch their head snap back like they were hit with a baseball bat.....you don't get either of those with the bow...

I have killed half dozen birds running and gunning just like with a gun. I've got a short compound, set at 50 pounds. I have a quick detachable "blind"...24X30 inches with a rectangular hole to shoot thru..it attaches to a stabilizer rod quickly....and hides your draw. Bird gets inside 30 yards he is toast. Very deadly.

I have killed em out of a Double Bull blind and I hate hunting out of it. I had permanent open top blinds built on my place on strut zones. I've called up several and killed em out of those blinds.

My first bow kill was plain old stalking a bird that was in a creek bed, shot him as he flushed at 10 yards. He flew 100 yards and died in mid flight and fell like a shot duck. 52# Bear takedown recurve. What a rush.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

it's not for everyone. I've killed a dozen merriams outside of a blind stalking them by using the terrain to get close. you don't have to sit in a blind. my archery Osceola was killed outside of a blind. only ones in my archery slam that were killed in a blind was the Rio and Eastern. I've killed eastern outside of a blind too. anybody even kids can kill em with a shotgun.

I’ve been taking my 14 year old for 4 seasons and he’s a rather stealthy young man. He’s killed 1 eastern, 2 rios and 1 Merriam. Wasn’t a single one of them easy. If turkey hunting is that easy for you then you’re likely hunting places with tons of birds or unpressured birds or both. I’ve had a handful of what I’d call easy turkey hunts in my lifetime, especially in the south. They haven’t come easy.

I went bow hunting for deer with a buddy many moons ago in Talladega Co. I was sitting in a little brush blind, and I had a group of longbeards walk up on me. He texted me while they were still in bow range and I told him about the turkeys all around me and he told me to shoot one since they had a fall season which was in. I drew back and let it fly and shot just under him cutting a wing feather off as it passed through. He got in the air and flew up in a tree with his buddies and I watched him for over an hour. Finally one of them flew down and he did as well and just meandered off like nothing happened.

Last time I had the inclination to shoot at one with a bow.

Bowhunting turkeys is dumb.

83% of all statistics are made up.

I guess I'm the only man I know that kills one or two with a bow every year. like I said it's not for everyone. but it's not dumb. I've never had one go further than 20 yds after the hit most die within 7 yds.

Just noticed you were from Dora. I grew up in the Dora/Corner area on the Walker and Jefferson line.

It's probably places like you see in these hunting shows. Unpressured and loaded with birds. I'm 56 and since I was 9 I've never not killed a turkey in a season. I've seen 2 easy turkeys in all these years. Neither from Alabama either.
