That’s the reason those Florida birds grow them long legs. They deal with that all the time.

In the swamps they just walk through it all the time. My son's bird last year was a swamp bird and the legs were very pale from all the time the bird spent in the water.

I remember several years ago when I was just getting started in turkey hunting, I'd seen multiple people say (both here and the Old Gobbler site) that it's nearly impossible to call a turkey across water. Then, the first time I went out solo, on a neighbors land behind our old house, I managed to call one up to the opposite side of a creek with an old Lynch Foolproof box call. He paced back and forth on the bank for a couple of minutes and then flew right across it to my side (although well out of range). I also watched some hens that same season walking around in 6" of water in a flooded field. I learned that when anyone talks about turkeys in absolutes, take it with a grain of salt.

They will definitely do it. If you had the choice though, you would want to be on the same side. You are asking the bird to do what he doesn’t like to do, so believe me when I say that. I’ve had them hang up on a lot less.
