Do we have any members on here that fit that bill?

General opinions on dogwood trees…always thought they were pretty and thinking of planting one in our front yard. It would get direct sunlight most of the day but this particular version supposedly does well in direct sunlight and is heat and is supposedly well-suited to the Central AL region.

Just wondering if there’s any need-to-know info or any reason I shouldn’t plant one

No you should be fine. There is a disease killing dogwoods in the state though. We’ve lost a ton around the house the last few years.

I've planted several in front...all died within two years. Not again.

Go ahead and plan a funeral for it.

I don’t have any personal experience but my in laws and my parents have planted them in the past and they’ve all died for various reasons.

some nurseries won’t sell them anymore and most of the ones that still sell them won’t give you any guarantee on them. They know most will soon die.

I got two older ones that are growing in some hardwoods behind my house, they are blooming now, one looks like its declining fast, but the other one still looks to be hanging on.....they were here when I bought the house.....

Youve got your answer here. I cut dead out of dogwoods pretty regular. I have seen some yards with big pretty healthy dogwood trees in them. I have no idea why theirs do well and others dont. I see more sick ones than healthy.

My neighbor had some until a storm took them out. But, for about 1 week real Pear trees bloom bigger and whiter than dogwoods, its only for a week but you get pears. Bradford Pears should never have been bred, stay away from those things.

Bottom picture is a ornamental cherry....top two are purple leaf plums with and without blooms. These trees are exceptional examples
