I used to eat them as a kid when I would go fishing with my grandfather, but that was about it.

Now I'm starting to really appreciate them for, as strange as it sounds, their gourmet qualities and how good they are for you.

1. Loaded with protein
2. Loaded with calcium.
3. Loaded with Omega 3
4. Unlike Tuna they are low in Mercury

At this stage I've just been experimenting with them on crackers, Triscuits, and salads with various toppings like Stone ground mustard, hot sauce and pickle relish. All have been delicious. My favorites so far are:

King Oscar Fillets and whole
Seasons
Brunswick

All in Extra Virgin Olive oil

Least favorite have been:

Beach Cliff in mustard sauce. They didn't taste bad, but they were all stuck together in one big mass of fish and not very visually appealing.

I have lots to try maybe even start ordering some you can't get around here from places like Amazon. Food City in Gadsden had a good selection.

I think my next experiment will be a sardine Bahn Mi on French bread and some Sardine Pasta with tomato sauce or butter parmesan sauce, maybe even take some smoked fillets and make a sardine salad kind of like a tune salad, but with sardines instead of tuna. I think I may even try a Sakushka and a rice bowl too.

I want to try stuff like Kippers too.

I know in the US we tend to think of Sardines as red neck food for hunting, fishing, campouts and working man's lunchboxes, but in the Mediterranean they are delicacies with many different varieties and recipes...

I know a lot of you guys on here eat them. What are you favorite brands and ways of eating them?

I know everyone like pics...

PS: Finally, after 16 years of marriage, I finally found something I like to have that Mrs. Irish won't eat. grin

I do like them on Saltines. Don't do Sodas anymore, but that would be good.

Very interesting I’ll be following. I need to be eating those things

On No Reservations, I think it was Spain where they went to a bar where each can of seafood (sardines and oysters mostly) was around 250-400 a can and said some of the best anywhere.

I stock up on the King Oscar's for hunting season in my camper. They are very good! Got some left that I'll eat during Turkey Season.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I eatem without crackers most of the time. Use a fork. I have had people give me the little wooden ice cream spoon when I buy potted meat. I don’t have a preference to brand but flavored with mustard or evoo are good. Can’t eat a lot of that canned stuff in the summer though. Tends to slide out too easy in the heat.

It be's that way sometimes.

The last ones I bout had a best buy date of 2028. The damn things last for a long time. I've been following some of the posters on Reddit and it's "a thing" to actually eat tins of "aged" sardines.

Here's a guy to whom King Oscar sent him for 17 year old canned sardines and he loved them...

https://www.reddit.com/r/CannedSard...oscar_sent_me_some_of_their_17_year_old/

He said that King Oscar flips the cans over each year to assure that it ages evenly.

All of mine so far have been in cans a little bigger than a pack of playing cards.

17 years? That’s like finding a McDonald’s fry under your seat years later and it looks the same

Let's just say that apparently King Oscar is confident of their canning process.
