For those of you that have shot deer at 400-600 yards with the creed, what ammo seems to perform the best at those distances? I’ve looked at Norma bondstrike and Hornady ELD-X, both in 143 grains. I’m not looking to push the guns limits, and have no intentions of shooting deer in excess of 600 yards, but I’d like a quality performing ammo for the ranges I’ve asked about. Both of these rounds seem to perform best of the options I’ve looked at.

Don't have a creed but I would prefer the Hornady ELD M over the ELD X.

According to my ballistic app, my 140 grain Accubond loads hold 1800fps up to 600 yards. So, I would say pretty much anything except mono bullets would work.

Eld-x, eld-m, tmk, ABs, NBTs should do what you want.

have shot deer and hogs out to 450 with the 140 eldm , nothing has run more that 50 yards and fell over. some just dropped where they stood. . have shot many a paper targets out to 600 with them also . they shoot very well in guns.

Wife's Bergara shoots the Eld-X good on targets and a high shoulder shot will always work, but I'm not sold on behind the shoulder boiler room shots yet. I'm speaking of under 100 yd shots if it matters.
Some have ran off with little to no blood. Found them cause I knew the direction and trail they would take.
This bullet may work better downrange i just don't know.

However, the ole Core-Lokts 140 gr will open up a blood trail wherever it hits and guns shoots them well out to 300 for me.
Just my 6.5 cm experience.

Stay away from the hornady eld bullets they suck on game. Tipped game king, Barnes, bondstrike, Berger hunting.

I’ve got some cheap Hornady American Whitetail interlocks I’m planning on using inside 300 yards. They’re shooting sub MOA consistently and should expand very well at normal ranges.

I just wanted to toy around with some better performing rounds for longer ranges when I decide to do that. I’ve got a box or Norma bondstrikes on the way to try. I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews on the ELD-X on performance.

Thank y’all for the feedback.

I know you know this already but practice at those ranges before you try and shoot deer at those ranges!

I have not tried them on game, but have shot some 140 Berger VLD hunting bullets out of my 6.5x55. They seem to shoot pretty well.

Yeah. I’m definitely going to spend time shooting beforehand. I’ve killed several deer at 330-371 without any trouble. I’ve always wanted to extend that range a little and there’s no time like now. I bought a Bergara B14HMR and it shoots really good compared to the rifles I’ve always owned. There’s nothing wrong with what I’ve killed deer with for years, but I’m in a stage of life that tinkering with things is enjoyable. 😉

You should quit shooting factory ammo then. 😎

I haven’t graduated to that level of tinkering yet. 😂

For a factory round, these in a 130 or 140gr would be tough to beat.

Just for fun I checked overall ogive lenghts the other day on a box of factory ammo for a new to me 7x57 I bought just to get the scope on paper and for the brass. Astounding differences just from that box of 20 rounds. Long range shooting and hunting are best with rounds you know for sure are going to hit where you want.

Hornady match 140 or 143 eldX will work just fine if your gun likes them. At the distances mentioned with 6.5 creed velocities you don’t need a bonded bullet and definitely don’t want a mono.

Factory PRIME 130gr HPBT ammo puts big holes in deer and has good velocity for factory loads.

143gr eldX is still a really soft bullet and my experience has been most rifles shoot it really well.

Cheaper factory ammo can still be surprisingly accurate.

Pic below is shots 7-9 on a brand new Tikka at 505 yards with 129gr Winchester PowerPoint 🤦🏼‍♂️ (Helping my buddy sight in a new rig, he was on the trigger). What really hurt my feelings was the factory ammo had an SD of only 12 across 11-shots.

I shoot Berger's beyond those distances and cleanly kill whatever. Also like the Sierras. 140+/- grain of course....No pea shooter crap.

Relatable distance kills with Berger 156 EOL and Hornady 143 ELD-X out of my 6.5 PRC. Berger has been the most consistent box to box, lot# to lot#, repeatable results over chrono I've seen. In the long range game(500+), you should constantly verify zero, stretch range w/ groups, and note hard dope variations. Don't let the ballistics apps/custom turrets be the end all, be all. If you follow the long range hunting world, there is lots of folks killing game with the Hornady ELD-M.

Longrangeonly.com is a good resource for these topics.

Take a look at the Accubond LR. They are a little softer than the regular Accubond for better expansion at long range and have a higher BC of .625. I have gotten good accuracy from them.
