Thats it. No vest. Any of yall hunt like that?

I use a vest, but don't carry as much weight as you do without it. My vest weighs only a few ounces without the seat, and I don't use it. I put everything i need in the vest and all I have to do is put it on to go hunting. If I had to look for my shells and calls every trip it wouldn't take me long to start losing stuff.

Very good point about losing or forgetting stuff. I like it all in a vest as well, so when the alarm goes off and I’m not wide awake I can just grab and go and know everything is there and not have to remember stuff. It only takes a couple times of getting into the woods and realizing you forgot something important to start having it all together and not have to remember.

Im not talking everyone, BUT I figure most folks worrying about ‘minimalist’ never even get a mile from the truck. It’s a fad for them. Often, I might go on a 4-5 mile ‘day hike’ which includes hunting and roosting turkeys. wink I carry what I need for the day hike….and a few extra things to kill turkeys….but the ‘to kill a turkey’ part of the packing list is the smallest part. I can always stash the other stuff and pick it up on the way out. Just my thinking. Then again, I don’t consider carrying a pack of possibles and a comfy chair as any sort of ‘load’…..I still recall what a real load and real distance are. wink

I use to be anti vest. I still find myself being more patient in a gobbler lounger but they get cumbersome toting a couple miles. Got a vest with cushy seat and I put a thermacell, one crystal pot, and a couple extra shells in. Binoculars and wingbone are around my neck. I do like the hydration bladder that goes in the back and the ability to carry the turkey in the back. I liked more hands free then my pockets full and slings trying to roll off my shoulders

Im glad I dont have to walk 4-5 miles a day to get into birds. Id probably quit hunting them if that was the case😁

5 miles? That’s a light morning turkey season warmup before I head to work and walk some more grin

I’m thinking y'all missed the point. Needs/wants are different for everyone, but I can’t see not being prepared for most eventualities over wanting to see how little you can get away with toting. If I’m ever that worried about a few # of practical gear or having to walk a bit with it, I’ll quit hunting altogether.

I do have places where I might walk no more than a few hundred yards. I go to others where I’ll walk a minimal hike. I’ve hunted all sorts of things where 4-5 miles was nothing. I’ve also been in positions where 25# of what some gripe about carrying in a turkey pack wouldn’t outweigh what was just in my pickets, the pack was the weight of a small human, and the ‘walking’ was counted in days, not miles.

^^^* That’s maybe 10# of useful stuff.

The only point I can find for whining about it being ‘too much’? Folks are too wimpy these days to even carry a purse. wink

I can go from one extreme to the other. Some days just a call and a gun to needing an apprentice to carry stuff and everywhere in between. I enjoy them all.

Therma cell, mouth call, slate call, TP and gun. I've killed a bunch just like that.

If you walk as much as I do, toting a purse just ain’t gonna work. Vest all day for me.

I gotta have a vest. I look like I’m going into battle lol! only thing I am missing is the kitchen sink.

If I know I’m gonna be sitting in one place I’ll tote a chair. It’s worth it to be comfortable especially if I’m gonna be napping.

I’ve considered one of mrs Glenda’s call bags, I can see where they would be good when it gets hot. Most folks I know who use them seem very happy with her work.

I tried the satchel, it ain’t for me. I carry too much stuff lol. I gave away a knight and hale vest because it wouldn’t hold enough stuff.

I use the Outdoor Vision Turkey Pro chest pack and a inner tube seat made by Glenda Green. I can get everything I possibly need in the chest pack and the inner tube seat weighs very little. My set up is very minimalistic while still maintaining organization of my gear and having a cushion to set on for comfort.

Come rolling up with a vest looking like a Navy Seal's chest rig.... and I'll pretty much know with 100% certainty you don't know what you are doing. You are simply doing way too much out there in general if you need all that. I don't know how you ever kill a bird running through the woods pulling crap out of your vest left and right generally forking around blindly calling with this/that. Can't kill birds?... look no further. I couldn't be a good Turkey hunter with all that crap either... .

1 mouth call in my left shirt pocket.

1 pot call + 2 strikers.

Camo head to toe.

That's all I need maybe a bottle of water but most of the time I don't need that.... I'm not out there that long... I try to shoot something before thirst ever becomes an issue.
