Since you said you have never stopped in Birmingham before, I want to point out that you should park/stay on the south side of the railroad tracks in Avondale. That is where the brewery and entertainment area is.

I go to church in that area and regularly eat out there. You will almost certainly be fine . However, just north of the tracks is a very large housing project and there is a lot of crime there.

For parking, there is normally plenty of parking near Redeemer Church, both in their parking lot and in the gravel lot across 4th Av. South. I think both are free and easy walks to the brewery. Just don't leave anything valuable in sight or in your truck bed.

The food scene in Avondale is in transition, but Saws Soul Kitchen is my recommendation. Get the chicken thighs or grits and greens. There are also some good options in Lakeview, but that is not walking distance.

Enjoy your time in Birmingham.

Appreciate all the responses.

BC,

May 3rd, same band! lol Good point.

I've actually been thinking about going to that concert.

They closed the Avondale location recently; only in Mountain Brook now. Several Avondale restaurants have closed /moved in past year, Melt, etc

Their Avondale location is closing. Not sure when, but they announced not too long ago. Good pizza though!

I stayed at an AirBnB several years ago near the park. Was in town for the beer fest. Didn't have any issues

My son asked me to go to a Primus concert I think in August. My main concern is parking. Seems like they will tow you in a heart beat in the Ham.
