Would like to know how you go about doing it, are you going to fireform brass are do you already have straight wall brass?

This time I am using the store bought magtech 410 brass shells. I have a new 410 single shot and plan to load up some of them. These brass are 2.5" and will be much better. Years ago i fireformed some for an old Mossberg. I would load up a 303brit case with a few grains of unique, fill with cornmeal and stick a wax plug in the mouth. I would fireform them in my 410. About 1/2 of the cases would split. These cases were short and I dont remember how I loaded them but they did not produce good patterns. I am expecting better results with these Magtech cases. I hope to use smokeless powder as that I have an abundance of various shotshell powders. I am hoping that someone has a proven load for these. I do have a Varity of sizes of veg fiber wads. I have used 358 veg wads to toad snake shot in my 38. I think I used 4 gns of 700x a veg OP card, filled up with 9 shot and put a card on top and made a slight roll crimp. They worked better than the capsules. they sell. I am thinking something similar would work for these magtech cases. I would appreciate any help

Thanks a bunch. That did help. 2400 is one of the few powders that I dont have. I do have Lil gun. 296, h110 ,4227 and powder for the other gauges. I do have the wads and a Varity of shot cups, and Im thinking that I will go with a shot cup and a nitro card under the cup. I will look up his load of 15.4 gns of 2400 for pressure and velocity and try to improvise with one of the powders that I do have. I will then drop back 10% till i check for pressure. Thanks again

You can get a manual from ballistic products downloaded for $9.99 on how to reload the brass 410 shells if you are interested

I just checked on that and it states loads for 20,16, and 12 only. Most reviews state its mostly for black powder anyway. but thanks anyway

stoolshooter , did you ever get the brass loads worked out? I’ve been looking into trying to load some brass 410’s but can’t find anything that seems to work consistently.

I have found what works best for me. Use at your own risk. I load 12.0 gns of H110 or 296 on top of a mag pistol primer. I firmly seat a thin .432 fiber nitro card on top of the powder. You will need a tight fit punch to do this so that the card stays flat. I then firmly seat one of those red 410 shot cups on that. I then put enough #9 8 or 7.5 shot in the cup and pack that down. Its usually 265 to 270 gns. I then firmly seat a thin fiber >
.460 card on top of that. Leaves about 1/8". I will glue that card in with Duco After that. I use an old unused 7 mag seat die and have it backed out enough to put a slight roll on the case mouth. . Not sure if the last step is necessary but it shoots good. I get the thin veg. fiber cads from Buffalo arms. I also use 460 cards to make 38 spec snake shot. I use H110 because it takes up least room in the case. I use the thin nitro cards for the same reason. I can get in more shot without the Win. red shotcup but I get more pellets on target by using them. I get about the same patterns at 25 yds as I do with factory 2 1/2 shells. The brass 410 magtech case is slightly tapered, Thats why to use a 460 card on top for a tight fit. If everything is tight you should get good patterns. Hope this helps PS I use a rubber hammer to seat everything

I forgot to add that any 410 wadcup is too small in diameter to make a good seal on top of the powder. Thats why you need the .430 nitro card under the wadcup and on top of the powder

Thanks for the info,I had read where some used the cup wad and some used a fiber wad between the powder and shot. Just wanted to know what worked best for you before I went the wrong direction.

The cup wad that works in 410 plastic hulls is too small for the brass hulls. it wont seal the powder charge

The cup wad that works in 410 plastic hulls is too small for the brass hulls. it wont seal the powder charge. I use the .430 Veg. fiber card as a nitro card and put a plastic wad cup over that. Works for me
