I need to block a field from the road with trees. I was thinking cedar in front and long leaf Pines behind them. I plan on backing them off the fence 2 tractor width wide. Area stays wet. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you've got the right idea. I would avoid any invasive tree specifics if at all possible. You can plant Egyptian Wheat or Switch Grass for immediate results with the Eastern Red Cedar and LL Pines as the long term solution.

Wax Myrtle if it grows native in your area.

Neither cedar or LL pine likes to have wet feet for too long. I’d go with a species that’s more suited for wet soils.

How tall do you need it to be. You might could just let a strip wolf out and accomplish the same goal, if it doesn’t have to be really tall.

A strip of privet hedge and briars would make you a thick buffer that will get 15’. 😎

Cedar is probably your best bet. Pines will grow too quickly.

Elaeagnes is definitely an invasive species but man it’s a good year-round screen.

Wax myrtles would probably be your best bet just plant high.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I'm actually planting loblolly this weekend on similar situation. Probably three to four rows, my back is looking forward to it... I'm also, lining the backside with hardwood species.
