This is not what studys show. All show breeding/nesting in South Alabama at about the same time as North Bama

I believe you are talking about the peak nesting period that seems to hit around 4/15-4/20 in AL. But we know that there are some hens still on the nest all the way to August, so there could be some on the nest as early as February and it wouldn't change the peak nesting date. I think they are no different than bass, with some spawning early and some much later.

Someone posted a picture of poults in early April here; I believe it was last season. And someone posted a pic of some chicken size poults in March, and it was from north AL. Maybe they will see this and repost.

Turkeys don't read books and they do whatever they wanna do.

Buddy watched one across the street yesterday breed a hen. Had one last year on the nest the 1st week of March. Also had some poults barely 1/2 the size of their momma the week of Thanksgiving.

If that is a cell phone pic it will have a date. I know of a researcher or 2 that would like to see it (they NEED to see it ;)). I had someone send me a pic last year of a flying poult in mid April as well. It definitely happens!! Good pic!
I had this discussion with a turkey researcher last week about how the telemetry data (hens with radios) don't do a good job of picking up the outliers in nesting - those few that are nesting very early and those nesting very late. They do a great job of picking up the "norms" and developing a good bell curve of the dates the majority nest and hatch.

I’ve had ppl send me pics of several day old poults the last few years in late March to early April, so they began nest initiation in late February most likely. I’ve also taken pics of flightless poults in early September, which was likely a third nesting attempt.

I've seen late poults many times. Frankie's picture is two weeks or so earlier than I have seen "early" poults. Thanks for the photo Frankie, pretty cool!

Here's a picture I took 8/22/23. Sorry the quality is poor, but if you expand it you can see the runt turkey. There's about 25 in the group and they are virtually grown except for the one. He wasn't even as big as a chicken, and I assume he was the sole survivor of a late clutch. I saw them several other times and he wasn't well treated by the rest of them. If still alive, he is likely a sociopathic turkey due to the bad treatment he received growing up. smile

He is just in front of the red piece of farm equipment.
