I’ve been at the same job for 40 years and thinking of calling it quits. I turned 60 last December. Got a good pension and savings. My question is what do I do? All you retired folks chime in please. I’m at the crossroads. Thx

I quit at 56 and simply do what I want. I'm a hunting/outdoors addict with millions of acres allowing public access. I hike, mt bike, shed hunt, scout, run cameras, sturgeon fish in the summer, work on my bows, hunt Sept-Feb in one form or another. For fun money I sell a little fire wood, trap a few beavers and moles, and do some seasonal day jobs for an old employer when he needs a fill in during silage season. We only getting older being active is key IMO

What's early retirees on aldeer doing for health insurance til 65? Just curious as I hate my job too. For us our company offers plans from over $2k per month that covers virtually everything to the plan we are going with that is $198 a month and has a $4k deductible per person, and then a 60%/40% coverage after that with a maximum out of pocket per person of $6k per year. The cheapest plan next to that one is $1400 per month. That's the reason we are going with the cheap "Consumer" plan. Even if both of us get super sick in a calendar year, we are still only $12k out of pocket before the insurance starts picking up 100%.

I’ve been at the same job for 40 years and thinking of calling it quits. I turned 60 last December. Got a good pension and savings. My question is what do I do? All you retired folks chime in please. I’m at the crossroads. Thx I've been making a list for the last several months heading to my retirement at 62 years old at the beginning of April. Hunt Flyfish Work on my old truck Work on my old motorcycle Ride my motorcycle all over Weight lifting Rucking (Walking with a heavy backpack) Buy a camper and camp with Mrs. Irish all over Learn Spanish Go back to college with the free senior tuition and get a degree in history Hang out with my buddies more. Do some slow international travel (Stay in various countries for weeks or months at a time to immerse in the culture.) Photography as a hobby Etc... The list keeps growing...

I'll be 60 next Month. I had planned on retiring 2 years ago, but a divorce set me back. Been getting my finances in order since, and probably done the end of this year. Hunt, Fish, and a lot of other things will keep me busy.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

What's early retirees on aldeer doing for health insurance til 65? Just curious as I hate my job too. I’m 66 and am on a Medicare advantage plan which is great. My wife has a few years before she qualifies and the cheapest insurance we could find was 1250 per month!!! She went with a health sharing program, Samaritan Ministries, and we now pay 273 per month for their premium plan. We have been happy with it and she has several friends that have really made out good with this program. The price you pay for insurance when you are not employed can greatly differ depending on how much money you make with your retirement. If your combined income is less than 90,000 per year, then I would call a medical insurance agency and let them see if you qualify for any government discounts. The figure could be closer to 100,000 but not sure.

Go back to college with the free senior tuition and get a degree in history
What this free tuition for seniors all about? Where can I find info on it. I’m not there yet but have always thought about going back to school when I retired some day.

What this free tuition for seniors all about? Where can I find info on it. I’m not there yet but have always thought about going back to school when I retired some day. I'm not sure about 4 year institutions, but most of the two year colleges offer free tuition for seniors. You still have to buy books and pay fees, etc... but the tuition is free. The catch is that if the class is full, your getting kicked out. It's only available to partially full classes, and I think you are limited to only so many hours per semester. The closest college to me is the State campus in Centre, AL and this is what they say... "This program allows students 60 years of age or older who have met admissions requirements to receive tuition waivers for college credit courses on a space-available basis only. Space-available basis requires registration during the late registration process. The scholarship will not apply to repeat classes, regardless of initial funding source. This scholarship can cover up to six hours per semester of in-state tuition only after all other forms of financial assistance have been exhausted."
