So are the tuffies generally thought to be better than small shiners for crappie fishing? I don't use them often and feel clueless if they ask me which I want. smile

We night fish with minners for crappie on bridge pillings an we always used shiners over tuffies..i can vividly remember daddy cussin cause the store sold out of shiners cause all the tourists boughtem…they eat tuffies fine but they have always eat a shiner better for us…ive caughtem on both my whole life but when i go to the store..i ask for shiners…a tuffy will live longer tho..they do seem to be…tuffer…hehe…it probly dont matter a whole lot if fishes is hungry. We ustah catch a few hundred a week on shiners…hadnt done that i a long time

You’ve got the rock creek citgo in concord, or the uni mart (jones) in montevallo at hwy17 and 22. That’s the 2 closest places I know of. If you had an aerated pond in the Pelham/helena area, I bet you’d do pretty good selling them for most of the year.

Usually the tuffies are smaller than I like so I will use the small shiners. It has been my experience that the shiners not only are more lively and wiggly but they are tougher in that they stay alive longer.

NM lake purdy is high as hell too. I think I'm about to drag one our watering troughs into the garage and do a bulk order on minners

I always try to get shiners when it's cool weather/cool water, and toughies for summer night fishing.

I promise you could sell them as fast as you could dip then up. I didn't know about the Uni Mart, That's close for me. When I am going to use bigger shiners, I have to go all the way to Perrins on 280 and get them the day before so I will have them before daylight the nest day. I have a bif cooler and a 120 volt aerator and they do fine for a couple of days in my cool garage. Perrins also has rooster livers for catfishing and I can't find that anywhere else. The little store on the east side of 31 in Saginaw used to have bait but it's out of business now. That would be a great place to open up and sell beer (of course) and ice and non ethanol gas and minners and rooster livers and other live bait.
