do something in the morning I haven’t done in probably 30 years. That is, go sit in a hardwood bottom and see if I can kill a squirrel or 2. Craving some fried squirrel and gravy and biscuits. If I go, I’m gonna take my very 1st gun. Winchester 1400 MK2 20 gauge. Bottom of barrel as far as quality shotguns go but I used it as a teenager and thought I was the king of the wood lot. We’ll see how I feel when that alarm goes off!

Killed one and missed one. How is it that you see a jillion squirrels all season but when you want to see and kill a few, they are gone.

Well it was pretty slow. I saw 2 yesterday and shot one and missed one. Today I saw 3 and killed 1 so I got a couple to fry later.

Been saying since deer season ended i was gonna take my 22 for a walk in our oak bottom. Trying to catch up on yard work I've neglected all deer season has kept me around the house.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

It was fun. I took my dad’s model 50 Winchester 12ga yesterday. He got that gun as a 21st birthday present. I don’t have a .22 set up for squirrels yet and my 20ga has a fore end stock issue. It’s amazing how you get so accustomed to watching the ground for deer and turkeys that you forget to watch the trees and branches for ‘em. I just made a trip down memory lane the last 2 mornings from hunting them as a kid with my dad. I also wore a pair of his lace up LaCross boots (we wore same size) that still had a couple of spots of blue tree marking paint on them from his forestry days. Had on a camo coat worn by an old timer who passed away a few years ago. Being in the squirrel woods thinking about my dad and this old friend made me feel good. Haven’t cleaned a squirrel in a few decades but we killed hundreds back in on the 70’s and 80’s and it was like riding a bike. I’ll post up the cooking in the foodie forum when I do that.

Two of my favorites for skwerls is to cook them in the crockpot with whatever seasonings you like for about 4 hours on low or until the meat starts falling off the bone. Then take the meat off the bone and put it in a pot pie. Cook in oven until the pie is done and man that's good eats! Also the meat off the bone can be put in a gumbo with sausage and its mighty fine too.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?
