I think most on here enjoy the discussions. ... I think so too……There’s a few though that seem to just use social media as their opportunity to hide behind a keyboard and be an asshole. That kinda gets old but about all you can do is just ignore their ignorance. You are physically going to the CAB meeting, and you say that you prefer to not speak there but you articulate better when you type. And then accuse somebody else of hiding behind a keyboard? 😂 alrighty then! OUCH ! BOOM!

That kinda gets old but about all you can do is just ignore their ignorance. Exactly, ignorance is bliss and all that. It is always the same couple people who act like that and then you have the few newcomers who echo their sentiments for lack of their own original ideas or for the approval they didn't get in high school. Keep on keeping on, as Bhamfred would say Fukem!

Why do some folks care so much what others talk about in the serious deer forum??.....Why does it matter if we talk about corn or shooting does?....Isnt that what this forum is for??......You dont have to read it or participate in the conversation if it doesnt interest you......Just dont understand why guys feel the need to jump in with ugly comments I enjoy the long discussions you start. And agree with you on the corn

If you post what you want why can’t others reply how they want? Who’s complaining here? If you don't want some blow back , don't post on social media. Everyone may agree with you some of the time, some may agree all of the time , but all will not agree all of the time.

It’s getting really hard to take someone serious that thinks AL deer population is on the brink of extinction.

It’s getting really hard to take someone serious that thinks AL deer population is on the brink of extinction. THE CORN CRASH IS COMING The CAB member over part of the black belt yesterday got up to give his spill about his district…..He said…. “The deer harvest was up 20% this past year, I think that’s great……that’s what we want for the farmers in the area.”…….I think that sums it up pretty well. Y’all just keep pulling the trigger and keeping the farmers happy.

If they shot some does, that would save me a lot of trouble also.

One thing most people don’t understand is the first few passes around any field is the larges part of the field. You take, let’s say 100ft all the way around a field and and deer eat 85-90% of the plants, you have lost a tremendous amount of yield. No yield, no money!! When I was planting soybeans, we had one field that the first round in the field with our 24’ grain drill covered 32 acres according to the counter on the wheel. That’s a big hit in the wallet no matter where you’re at. You lose 1/3 of your income to something and I promise you would want to try to get rid of that something.

I don’t disagree with any of that……But deer hunters and farmers are separate entities…….It isnt the DCNR’s responsibility to manage the deer herd for what’s best for farmers and insurance even though that’s what we do……It isnt the hunters responsibility to lower the population down to a level acceptable to farmers……It’s the farmer’s problem to solve. If I’m in charge of managing the deer herd then I manage the deer herd and let the other entities manage their part. What we have now is a CAB board that represents the other entities to insure that deer are managed in a way that’s best for them and not hunters……. Farming and insurance should be innovating instead of relying on less deer as their main solution to their problem. I get that the DCNR has to work with farming/insurance some but not to the point that our main goal is to appease their needs…..There wasn’t a word spoken in the meeting about how herd dynamics are in the toilet nor does anyone care just as long as numbers are held down.

Many valid points you’ve made. There are chemicals being made now that farmers can spray on certain crops to keep the deer and hogs off the fields that work great. But there is costs associated with that and when you have to watch every penny you spend, especially now with grain prices falling like a rock, it hard to justify the cost per acre verses return per acre. Some farmers can absorb some crop damage but most can’t. Hunters and farmers will never kill every deer off a property but the constant pressure can move them somewhere else. Same with hogs. You don’t get rid of hogs. You try to pressure them so they will move somewhere else. We were offered a pretty good size farm to hunt years ago in Coy Alabama because the guys that were hunting the farm wasn’t shooting does and hogs. The farmer was going to run them off and lease the property to us. We asked him if it was time for their lease to expire and he said no, but he’d terminate their lease if we wanted it and promised to shoot a bunch of deer. We declined the offer because we didn’t want to get involved in that mess. The hunters agreed to shoot more deer, according to our friend who knew the farmer well so I gues it worked out for them. I don’t agree with the slaughter of deer because of crop damage but I know the loss that they can cause and understand why some would want it. Farmers and hunters can work together to control the numbers to help keep damage at an acceptable point without wiping out the population.

We ARE losing money to deer farming, that's for sure, but if you can't farm despite the deer you don't know what you are doing. Money lost is in-fact money lost either way....I get that. Margins are tight and getting tighter... I also get that. But if deer are about to put you out of business farming.... anyone out there send me PM I want to come look at your equipment... you'll be selling it soon. We've been dealing with deer for 60 years at this point and they have been a problem since at least the early 1970's.
Let me know what y'all got I'd love to buy it 50% off before the bank comes and gets it. You're done. Hard to believe you made it this far I honestly wouldn't know how you did.
Hollering about a farmer with a deer problem is a total cop-out towards a larger conversation IMO. A conversation that needs to be had. That's like saying "do it for the kids".
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

It is incorrect 😂 But seriously the departments of the government represent all taxpayers, not just those who have to work closely with them.
