every season, i try to experiment with my calls & maybe pickup a new thing or two to take to the woods & try out ... i’ve been hunting with a homemade wingbone for several years, and it’s a very effective call ... been watching some videos on Zach Farmer & noticing how raspy his trumpet calling was - all of my wingbone calling has been clear with little rasp at all ...

messed around on my wingbone this morning until i could produce a radio static/sizzling sound out of it, and then carried that into a yelp ... i’m far from perfect but maybe i can get this going before season comes in this year ...

That’s a start! You got it to roll over a few times too. I don’t have the time to work out a wingbone every spring. I used to fool with them but it takes a lot of practice to make it sound good. You got it headed your way though

A wing bone call will absolutely make the hens mad. I don't use it much but it can be really effective. My calling has always been on the clear side. May try this.

I use both a wingbone and a trumpet at times.

I can flat piss a hen off with a cane yelper or trumpet, a suction call does the work!

i found your 2021 post about your 2-piece rivercane yelpers - did you ever make some 3-piece calls? if so, how different do they sound?

both of my wingbones are 3-piece calls ... rode down to a big creek & cut some rivercane & built a 2-piece yelper this afternoon - takes a bit more hand manipulation but it sounds very similar to my wingbones ... i’m drying the two pieces in the oven as i type ... will glue ‘em up tomorrow & start messing around with it some more ...

Zach farmer could put a lot of rasp in a suction yelper. I can just fooling around with a little bit of trying, but not on demand in the woods.

Wingbone is all I use, if you want to get raspy you’ll have to reposition the call in your mouth more than likely. Do you use a stopper or work the call towards the tip? No pun intended.

I am not Zach Farmer by any stretch, but rasp will come from loose lips and air drag.

I fail to see the point in having a camera for this video. I might have known what was going on had the guy not walked away from the camera. Hes a pretty good caller but a terrible videographer

i’m not using a stopper - working the tip like you say

i reckon sucking on this green rivercane wasn’t such a good idea 🤣 i plan to cut up the pieces i got yesterday & let em dry some before making more cane yelpers ... green rivercane has a sweetness to it that reminds me of chewing on sugar cane when i was a kid

fresh off the bench, my first finished rivercane yelper - headed to FullStrut to try out on his birds ... thx again to Bustinbeards & PCP for their tips & suggestions ... nothing fancy, just a plain ole field grade call ...
