I got 50lbs of cut Red Pontiac, 10lbs each of Yukon Gold, Kenebec White and Red Norlands planted. Still got 20lbs of Huckleberry Golds to plant. That should almost insure I get a batch of homemade French fries. I’m gonna let this rain event pass and I’ll finish the potatoes and move on to snap beans.

I don’t know anything about growing potatoes, but with a good return on your planting - how many pounds would you expect?

I don’t know anything about growing potatoes, but with a good return on your planting - how many pounds would you expect? I’ve had red potatoes do a 10:1 ratio. Most years it’s 6-7lbs to a lb of potatoes planted. I’ve seen many times that 1 slice of potato with 2 sprouts made as many as 14 nice potatoes under the plant. 8-10 nice potatoes is average here. Gold or white potatoes don’t produce as much. 4-5 nice potatoes per plant is average here. On a good year I’ll give several hundred pounds of potatoes away to friends and family.

I just picked up 15 pounds of red... I usually get my seed potatoes at the feed store across from Darby’s but when I went at the end of January, they hadn’t gotten them yet. I would get some onion sets from them also, didn’t have that either.
