I am gonna try and put in our one food plot we plant every year this weekend. I am going a different route than we ever have before biased on lots of things I have read on here. I bought a 50 lb bag of seed at the feed store the other day and 80 lbs of pellet lime. I have not done a soil test. I know I know I need to do it but honestly I just forgot with everything else going on. So what i am wondering is how much lime should i put out with no ph test? And what fertilizer should i use ? How much of the bag should I use? The stuff I am planting is: 58% wheat 24% oats 9% Rye 5% winter peas. The plot will be at the most 1/2 an acre. Thanks for any help you guys can give me !

The lime takes months to work. Basicly you will be wasting your money on the lime.

Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If it's a plot you plant every year, the lime is not a waste. This years plot will see very little benefit from it though. We lime when we plant because its a convenient time.
I'd use the whole bag.

I going to put a bag of fastacting and bag of regular pellet when I plant. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm preety good about fertilize my yard, this year put some fast acting lime on it and two weeks later it was amazing at what it did.

I use 250-300 lbs of a blended fertilizer per acre. Don't just put one bag on 1/2 acre. It's not enough. Two bags of 15-5-10, 13-13-13, or17-17-17 would be the minimum I would put.

Good advice. And 80 lbs of lime is not gonna have much effect this year or next year either. I've got a plot that is .6 of an acre, and I can't get a buggy to it. I put 40 bags of pelletized lime on it a few years ago, and it is past time to do it again. 80 lbs on a half acre is like a drop in the bucket.

This plot it really really small. And with out a soil test I am scared to over do it so this year thats all I am going to put out. After I get a soil sample done ill go more then. Thanks for the advise!
