I love my stainless rifles with composite stocks but there’s something about a good stick of walnut and blued steel that just feels right in the deer woods. It’s a shame the poor rifle is chambered in such an inferior round. wink

killed a bunch of deer with a 257Roberts and 100gr Partitions. I have two 700 Classics, one very pretty wood.

Should you ever decide to dispose of that horribly inadequate caliber rifle, please let me have first dibs. I love a 257 Bob!

Been a bunch of deer die with the ones we own, for sure!

100gr Partitions over H4350 is my favorite load although my buddy I got this rifle from sent some hand rolled 100gr TTSX that the rifle likes.

257 Bob is ballistically inferior.

Should take it to Gundoc and have it rebarreled to a 6.5 Gheymoor.

Can you believe your classifieds listing from over a decade ago was one of the links that popped up when I was researching the rifle?

Funny. Yet to shoot the one I finally picked up. Can't wait.

Love those 700 Classics, have 2 of them. One of the very early ones in .270 with 22" barrel when they were making them in several calibers before they started the one caliber a year series, and one in 7mm-08 with 24" barrel from the one caliber a year series. The earlier one is prettier, but both are great rifles. I was thinking about it the other day, as much as I carry and sit with a rifle in the woods vs. actually shooting it, I like having something to handle that's got some character and craftsmanship vs. the utilitarian mass-produced rifles of today. Not knocking those who enjoy the latter, just know what I like.

Fixed it for you.

I'd change it to .243 is what I'm saying. That's what real men shoot.

The 243 is a manly caliber, no doubt. But only with 85 gr ttsx out of a tikka. This is a Remington. Gosh, by this point I thought you'd know the rules.

On a side note Randy Travis sang a good song about that year.

Awesome man! I don’t know anything about that caliber but I bet it can give one a dirt nap. I got my hands on a beautiful wood BDL in .270 about 9 years ago from an ALdeer brother. Love that gun.
