Look, I can’t owl call worth a flip, and I hate a crow call with a passion. What is another call that works as good or close to as good as an owl call? I’m not familiar with many of the other calls, cause I just got into turkey hunting the last couple of years. Would like something that is kinda fool proof, other than a crow call.

Chad

Goose call but you need to be able to hoot or buy a hooter

Fox 40 whistle. Short blast. Very high pitch. Owls make weird noises, Im not sure you can screw up an owl hoot. Its best to let the woods wake up and them gobble when they gobble.

Are you hooting with a call or just with your mouth?

What matthews pro staff said

But before i leave i will hit a crow - crow works well - it can annoy you but the volume can snatch a gobble

I hav used hawk call - but that more close range

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self

This^^^^^^ . If you use a locator , use it very sparingly .

Late morning crow call to keep up with a gobbler about it. Coyote howler way before grey light works well. If it’s familiar ground I’m letting them wake up on their own.

Agree with others above. I rarely use a locator. I prefer to let them gobble on their own. But I'm not a professional like some of these guys grin

I owl hoot quite a bit. Maybe I just like doing something and it makes me feel good calling in owls and pretending to fake shoot them.

The best locator calls Ive heard is the horn on a river barge or the siren that a quarry sends out just before setting off explosives. So, you could go that route. One morning a barge got stuck on a sandbar about 1 mile from me and the turkey went crazy gobbling when he revved his engines every minute for about an hour. I killed easily that morning. But, Im not sure how to replicate that sound. It is more of a vibration.

Otherwise, I think I'd go with a goose call, or better yet, make a great blue heron call.

best locator i’ve ever heard was a heavy set of chains being thrown down hard into the back bed of a pickup truck - the redneck that did it close to my land made em gobble every single time he did it

damn near made me gobble when he first did it

I usually wait to hear them gobbler on their own in the morning, but I picked up a new hooter recently that I’m very excited to use. Sounds good

I’ve also had good success with a crow call late in the morning finding birds

We had a guy that rode the roads around our camp, we called him Toby Keith! He would get out with country music blaring , turn it down and then hoot a few times, next he would honk his horn a couple times, next he would slam his door a few times, I have heard them gobble at them all but they really likeD ole TOBY!
