You Sad Bastids.......Bill was $82.00 here in th' Log Cabin. BIG BUCKSTOVE.......1640 sq. feet. MORE Hardwood to Cut than I'll ever NEED!! When we build, i promise you we will heat with wood. And ill get paid to cut it. I Grew up with a Fireplace. These Stoves are th' Shizzle for Heat!! Not as FAST as Gas Heat.....BUT CHEAP to RUN!! Theysell a Ashley wood heater, square metal box with glass doors, blower too, they say will heat 3000sqft of house. Its $1200. Thats what ill be getting if i can get one then. Its a good looking heater. Our A frame will be around 2000sqft. It should keep it nice and toasty. And there shall be shade in the summer. Im tired of living in the middle of a field in the sun.

The only one I can’t figure or have a problem with is the empty building without climate control or the possibility of using any electricity going up over $500 I wouldn’t pay it either something bad wrong there. The way it’s done now days I don’t think there’s a way to tell since nobody comes and reads a meter. All this smart technology is a double edged sword as usual

Reason I know Alabama power is full of sh*t, is because we have been in this same house now going on 20 years, and we had the highest power bill we have ever had this month. With that said most of those years we had 4 children here running in out, multiple TV's running, washing clothes, cooking, someone always getting a shower. Now that it's just me and the wife, and we both work day shifts 5 sometimes 6 days a week, and we get the highest bill ever, yeah I absolutely believe there something shady going on with Alabama power.

$422 - was shocked
Here is the kicker - wife loves to run gas fireplass when it 60 outside and run me out of the house. When it was super cold - she was not running it till i complained
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

We had heard horror stories about what the next power bill would be. My boss showed me where you could track your daily use online, so my wife and I did that yesterday. Created an account on Alabama power web site. Looks like ours will be about 15-17% higher when we get it. We use gas space heaters which I highly recommend, but we did run our unit fan to circulate warm air under the house. We ran a space heater in the garage by the water filter and a heat lamp for the dog. About 5 days of unusually cold weather should have been around 15-17% so mine looks legit. Apparently central units are the majority of everyone’s power bill.

Sounds like a lot of you need to consider adding additional insulation.. I ran across a guy that was spray foaming his house, the contractor sucked out all his blown in insulation and put it in large construction trash bags. There were 65 of them. I bought all of them for $200. I rented an insulation blower from Sunbelt for $100 and blew it myself. Had a total of $300 and a little time. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I now have about 32” of blown in insulation, it has cut my power bill in half. When the deep freeze hit a week or two ago, it went up $50…I do have a wood burning fireplace that ran constantly during that time but compared to years past, it is truly unbelievable the difference it has made…Adding insulation is the one thing you can do that will literally pay for itself…..
If at first you dont succeed, You may not want to try parachuting

Gas furnace for me. For the win. Is it more fun to pay the gas bill than the electric? Gas bill ain't nowhere near as high. That's a fact. I like my house cold anyway. So that helps. But I've had $600+ electric bills with heat pumps/heat strips and the house was cold anyway. If I'm gonna pay more for a utility it's gonna be for gas that does what needs doing.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

I’ve got a heat pump and I hate it. Can barely keep up and never cuts off when it’s needed most.
