So my throw and mow clover idea was kind of shot down. What could I put out this summer to get something going in the spot until I put clover or something this next fall plant? It's gonna have to be a throw and mow style and gonna be a 1/3 acre spot. Any advice is appreciated.

I am going to try a combo of Milo, buckwheat and maybe I/c peas and or soybeans. Have no idea if it will work on my place but I’m gonna give it a try.

I wouldn’t plant anything for summer on 1/3 of an acre. I’d do soil test and lime and fertilize like has been said, until planting clover this fall.

But do it quick. Don’t scratch ground after the last freeze. You’ll end up with a bunch of crap you don’t want

@Mbrock,

Are you saying don't disc plots after the last freeze? When is the best time to disc if you are doing summer fields like cowpeas, soybeans, etc?

He means if you aren’t planting summer plots.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Right. If you were to fertilize native vegetation you don’t need to disc during the growing season. You’ll get invasives and undesirables.

Soil test it and lime it. I would plant buckwheat and sunn hemp to add organic matter.
