I’m hoping they release a left handed version of it. I really want one in 7-08, 308, or 6.5 PRC.

I handled one last week. Vast improvement over gen 1. But I think comparing it to a tikka is alittle far fetched. I emailed ruger customer service and asked if they were planning on releasing a left-handed version and they said because of legal issues of releasing information they could not comment at this time.

I have a new one on order in 7mm-08 for my grandson.
I ordered the Gen II Standard.
The place I get some of my stuff from priced it to me at $519.00 but it did have to be ordered, was not in stock.
Playing the waiting game now.
I'm going to top it with a Luepold VX-3HD 4-14 x 40 mm CDS with the Twilight Hunter Firedot.
Not planning on having to upgrade the scope later, just do it right from the git go...

That’s one store I was in today, I didn’t see anyone but also could get anyone to help me so I could ask. Simmons said they hadn’t gotten there’s yet and didn’t know when they would be in… at least I got someone to talk to me in there. Simmons had a 708 about two weeks ago, but it did not last long. They said they would be getting more in soon.

I talked to an older gentlemen that i had never dealt with before and he told me they hadn't gotten them in yet then basically started bashing Ruger and how far behind the times they were. He was trying to sale me on a $1500 bergara instead. I like the Bergara but the Gen 2 fits what im looking for. wasn't the best experience dealing with a salesman, usually not the case at simmons.

Sounds like Simmons sent their employees over to Mark's Outdoors for some training on how to be an arrogant a-hole. I think the stupidity is just an added bonus that helps further elevate their job performance.
Simmons better check that quickly. People actually have to drive to their store. Mark's stays in business because most of their customers drive by it somewhat regularly. I don't need chit in downtown Bessemer.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Ruger American rifles are economy junk.yes ive seen several that shoot amazing well Even with horrible cheap plastic stocks but let's face it they are economy crap.ruger is definitely not the company it once was at all. So Ruger is crap for making a cheap and accurate gun?

Ruger American rifles are economy junk.yes ive seen several that shoot amazing well Even with horrible cheap plastic stocks but let's face it they are economy crap.ruger is definitely not the company it once was at all. So Ruger is crap for making a cheap and accurate gun? Yea, I don’t follow the logic. The American shoots better than the Hawkeye at like half the cost. I get that nice rifles are beautiful…but when I’m in the woods I want an accurate tool that won’t break my heart if I get a ding on it.

No you don't own a rifle that shoots as good as my 1998 Ruger mk77 I promise.i bet none of you do Yes I know Americans shoot well I've seen it but or hit or miss but the one I bought my son had roughest most horrible barrel at break in.but oh no none of y'all would ever know anything about that cause youve never tried it. I'll just say it's a horrible copper mine like a factory savage. There's a lot you can learn breaking in barrels . basically who makes good ones and who doesn't You find out who hand lapps and who doesn't Go buy a Tikka if you want tupperware.every thing is perfect except the cheap stock but they always shoot and barrels clean out easy.no brainier or do y'all know how to judge a precision rifle vs a economy rust bucket?I doubt it Ruger has made nothing worth having in rifles since the m77 and it was hit or miss but not mine.yall do not have a rifle that will shoot as well as my Ruger mk77 I bought in 1999 in 260 remington.i promise Ruger is pitiful now except wheel guns ,10-22 and mk77 every single other thing they make is economy garbage . Absolute garbage Rust buckets cause they can't even remove blueing salts enough to prevent rust.crap modern American made crap I would not own anything Ruger makes except what I've mentioned above with vaccaro's etc. and maybe 1911's.

If you want cheap buy bergara, new Steyr 2 , Howa 1500 or tikka.skip everything else Glad to see Steyr decided to get back into selling rifles to u.s . New gen 2 pretty nice Not sure what they was thinking for awhile.kinda shame they can't come out with something bad ass with decent stock in mid to upper range But glad to see they are back in game with gen 2 rifles Probably Browning x bolt but have no experience with those

My ruger American will shoot one ragged hole at 100 yards with the little bit of stock work I did myself. It’s amazing how accurate that gun is with quality glass. Especially since I paid $200 out the door for it brand new years ago.
Mine will too and I won it at a NWTF banquet on a 20 or 30 dollar raffle ticket. Only rifle I’ve ever owned that will touch holes shooting off a solid rest

Larry's w/ Navy camo blue stock or the Walmart blow out sale? I have 4 RAs and paid under $200 ea for all of them. Right time to be in Huntsville.

Anyone still looking for these POS rifles? Marks had 4 out yesterday. One was a 7mm 08. If 3% is now sober he might want to take a drive

They aren’t offering it in 308? But ARE offering it in 6.5cm? WTH is wrong with Ruger’s logic?
I just don’t get offering a short barrel in everything BUT 308.

A 308 RANCH.
They offered a Gen 1 Ranch in 308
A 20” 308 sucks for suppressed used.
You see lots of folks making ‘compromise’ gun models to attempt to straddle the market, instead of purpose models.

The Standard Gen 2 is offered in .308 item number is 46902
They also have a Gen 1 in the Predator with an 18.5" barrel
Looks like a whole lot of different calibers are planned later this year too

Yep, I may just buy a Gen 1…..but was thinking there was a Gen 1 ranch 308 with a 16.5” barrel? If not, I’ll just find something that’s an easier button to get to 16” and AI.
I got zero use for any new rifles with over 18” barrels. I’ve got a few I’ll keep forever, but I’m running everything else suppressed AND short enough to not be a PITA with a suppressor, to heck with squeezing out FPS.

I have been shooting a 16” .308 for 2 years and the bucks and bobcat it anchored to the ground didn’t notice any FPS difference at all. It sure has been a joy to tote in the woods and in tight quarters, everything else feels like toting a telephone pole!

My 1999 mk11 won't shoot under 2.5" groups for schit.... I'd imagine most of today's rifles shoot as good as yours, including my 2024 m77 22 hornet.

I'm about to buy a new rifle for my wife. Would you go with the Tikka Lite or the new Ruger American, and why?

I'm about to buy a new rifle for my wife. Would you go with the Tikka Lite or the new Ruger American, and why? I have only founded a Gen 2. Huge Ruger fan. RAG2 is a step up from RAG1. Plus in cases, threaded and shorter barrel (if that is what you want). Ruger service is outstanding. However, the difference to me personally, put a stock and a cheap bolt knob on a tikka and you have a super smooth rifle with an excellent trigger and action. After market for Tikka is bigger too.

I'm heavily leaning on the Tikka. My only problem is the Tikka Lite isn't threaded and she said she eventually wants a supressor. If I go Tikka I will eventually have to have it threaded.

Estimate $150 for that. Pull the barrel from stock and send to Gundoc.

The Ruger is not for aesthetics, purity of lines, or refined rifle snobbery. It’s for practical applications in function packages with the necessary modifications as it comes.
I agree...My go to hunting rifle is a Gen 1 in 30-06. I just wish they'd do something about that awful trigger. Tikka and Bergara both have shown a good trigger doesn't have to have that dang safety blade in the middle of it

Got my hands on one of these at a LGS and man they are super nice, much nicer than the gen 1 which I have probably 4-5 of. They also had a couple of the ranch gen 2. I'm not going to rush out and replace my gen 1's, but I do plan on picking up a 6mm arc when they come out. I've got the howa mini in 6 arc and it's probably my most accurate rifle with factory ammo.

Evidently they’ve released the other calipers. I was in Mark’s today and saw several. They now have one less .308. Give us a range report asap.

I’m starting to see them more and more as soon as I run into a 7mm08 I’ll have one too. I’ve seen them from 599-699 fyi. Vans in Cullman had a 7-08 Saturday but I had the kids and didn’t have time to wait around and do all the paperwork or is already have one. There was a 7mm-08 on the rack next to the .308. I don't know what their stock level was. They had more of the .308's in the back.

Looked into it. I like the looks of that little rifle! Seems like a nice rifle but 12-1/2" LOP and negative slope on the stock comb is a big no for me At least they put a fairly decent twist (1:9) on the 22 250, but would've been even better at 1:8.
