Anyone know who to get info from about US Steel leases? Looked all over the place and can’t find anything. I have emailed a few people and haven’t received a response.

I could be wrong but I don’t think they manage the timber/leases in their land. I think it’s a timber company. I don’t know which one though.

To my knowledge, US Steel doesn't lease to the public anymore. They were also just bought by a Japanese firm.

I think they divested themselves of a lot of their surface lands over the last couple of decades. Last time I checked, Molpus Woodlands Group in Mississippi was handling their leases. The Mulberry fork WMA is theirs, but it's WMA. Also under a timber lease to Carnegie Pension Fund for another 85 or 90 years. Don't keep up with much of the rest of it any more. As 3Toe says, they were just bought, and could change some of their policy

From my understanding its all a buddy buddy system. There are several thousands of acres around my house that is hunted by home builders who are involved in developing US steel land. From my understanding they are getting it dirt cheap, based on sources i know that have hunted with them/ know them.

I did a lot of work for USS a while back. They were EXTREMELY sensitive about any "buddy buddy" or below market activity. As a publicly traded company, the local real estate group was responsible to the board, sharelholders, SEC, etc. If they were doing anything on a "buddy buddy" basis now, it would be a change.

I’m 99% sure the people that have it pay $4/acre or less on some very desired land. If they didn’t get that via buddy buddy they need to go buy up some lottery tickets.

It is all a close knit group. Like 3-4 guys. If you ever get in touch with the right person, he will give you the runaround about not having anything available, all while the 3-4 guys continue to get more property. With them selling the company it will be interesting to see what happens to leases, but I will assume they continue to lease the land.

With the amount of land they have, they have to be getting it for cheap.

US steel leases their own land. Has nothing to do with timber companies like molpus or valleycreek.

I agree with this. I cold called a number to a person who leased from US Steel. He told me he had about 4,000 acres between him and 3-4 guys. Said they weren't interested in adding another person. US Steel calls them whenever additional land came up and they would continue to increase their leased acreage. Nice fella and great conversation. Can't blame them for not wanting to ruin something good.
