2.7 is better than either 3.5s I have had. 2.7 is my favorite and I have had everyone of their motors and pull a 20 ft bass boat multiple days a week 5.0 was my least favorite. 2.7 and 3.5 out preform it pulling and performance wise and gas mileage

Bought both sons a 2013 f150 w ecoboost and had to have all turbo coolant replaced at around 100,000 miles on both trucks. Also replaced water pump on one of them and it was like a 15 hour job which is crazy. I would go with the 5.0 all day long and leave the turbo six cylinders alone.

Note to self, never ask ALDeer about an item that I want to buy. That’s a fact, only thing you’ll get an “atta-boy” or “you stole that one” comment for is a 300k+ mi Taco that just had its first oil change. New trucks suck. Ford sucks. GM sucks. Ram sucks. Leather sucks. Power seats suck. Air conditioned leather power seats suck even more. I’ll be here all week folks, don’t forget to tip your waitress

My son has a 2013 with the 3.5 and has replaced the timing chain or belt (whatever it has) twice to a tune of around 6 grand each time!! My wife has a 2014 3.5 and has had no problems in 130,000 miles. Obviously they made some changes between 13 and 14. What were the symptoms and why did he replace it? I have a 2006 5.4 F150 with 207k miles on it that has sounded like a diesel since I bought it used with 90k miles on it. I had some work done on it at a Ford shop around 125k miles and they told me I needed a new timing chain and that it would cost $3500 or so to have it done. I understand if it breaks it will mess the engine up, but at the time my mechanic told me I could get an engine for around $5k so I decided to hold off on the timing chain. So far so good ... I can live with the rattle.

I had a 2020 2.7 ecoboost in a crew cab 4x4 f150 and it had plenty of power, was very impressed with towing too BUT damn it made a lot of noise rattling when started up in the cold. Even my wife noticed it and she is about as unmechanical as anyone she said "why is it making that noise" haha. Had other issues with the truck and felt like it was kinda cheaply built, a lot of noise when raining, clunk in front end, cheap plastic oil pan and plug, skid plate made out of some type of fabric material that kept coming loose, console looked like it was assembled by a 4 year old. Also had a fuel injector go bad at 6000 miles and the service guy said the injectors had issues. If that one only made it 6000 miles, how long before the other 5 crap out? Traded the truck.

I’ve about come to the conclusion that any direct injection motor, naturally aspirated and especially forced inductions, needs a catch can if you want better chances at longevity. About to put one on my 6.2. I hate hearing about the ecoboost issues continuing. I had a 13 and loved it. But it started rattling and I let it go. You’d think by now ford would have figured out the cam phaser issue. It really is a good motor, as long as it’s right. Put one on my Son's 16 chevy and on a 97 vette. Crazy the amount of oil it catches!
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
