2.7 is better than either 3.5s I have had. 2.7 is my favorite and I have had everyone of their motors and pull a 20 ft bass boat multiple days a week
5.0 was my least favorite. 2.7 and 3.5 out preform it pulling and performance wise and gas mileage

My 2011 has the 5,0 & I have had no problems with this engine.

I think you found your answer!

I've had several Ecoboosts and love them.

2016 F150 3.5 - bought brand new and sold with 175k miles. Zero engine problems.
2018 Expedition 3.5 - traded after getting wrecked. Zero engine issues.
2023 Expedition 3.5 - only 10k on it now but love it.

My Mustang has the 5.0 Coyote and love that as well.

Bought both sons a 2013 f150 w ecoboost and had to have all turbo coolant replaced at around 100,000 miles on both trucks. Also replaced water pump on one of them and it was like a 15 hour job which is crazy. I would go with the 5.0 all day long and leave the turbo six cylinders alone.

My son has a 2013 with the 3.5 and has replaced the timing chain or belt (whatever it has) twice to a tune of around 6 grand each time!! My wife has a 2014 3.5 and has had no problems in 130,000 miles. Obviously they made some changes between 13 and 14.

That’s a fact, only thing you’ll get an “atta-boy” or “you stole that one” comment for is a 300k+ mi Taco that just had its first oil change.

New trucks suck. Ford sucks. GM sucks. Ram sucks. Leather sucks. Power seats suck. Air conditioned leather power seats suck even more. grin

What were the symptoms and why did he replace it? I have a 2006 5.4 F150 with 207k miles on it that has sounded like a diesel since I bought it used with 90k miles on it. I had some work done on it at a Ford shop around 125k miles and they told me I needed a new timing chain and that it would cost $3500 or so to have it done. I understand if it breaks it will mess the engine up, but at the time my mechanic told me I could get an engine for around $5k so I decided to hold off on the timing chain. So far so good ... I can live with the rattle.

Have a friend with a "new" dually. The owners book is an inch thick, with 2 supplemental books also. One for towing, and one other one. No thanks. One recall after another.

Previous truck was a F150 with the ecoboost. Was a great try until it wasn’t which happened at 186k. Driving a tundra now but sure miss the Ford which was a much more comfortable vehicle. Will likely get another Ford in the near future. Life is too short to not enjoy your ride.

Google the topic. There was a video asking ford techs which engine they would choose.

It was like almost all 5.0.

You take a small engine and boost it, crap is gonna break. Just my opinion.

I had a 2020 2.7 ecoboost in a crew cab 4x4 f150 and it had plenty of power, was very impressed with towing too BUT damn it made a lot of noise rattling when started up in the cold. Even my wife noticed it and she is about as unmechanical as anyone she said "why is it making that noise" haha. Had other issues with the truck and felt like it was kinda cheaply built, a lot of noise when raining, clunk in front end, cheap plastic oil pan and plug, skid plate made out of some type of fabric material that kept coming loose, console looked like it was assembled by a 4 year old. Also had a fuel injector go bad at 6000 miles and the service guy said the injectors had issues. If that one only made it 6000 miles, how long before the other 5 crap out? Traded the truck.

You’d think by now ford would have figured out the cam phaser issue. It really is a good motor, as long as it’s right.

Put one on my Son's 16 chevy and on a 97 vette. Crazy the amount of oil it catches!

And just think of all that oil and water vapor hitting the backside of your intake valves for 100k miles. I ran a two port catch can on my 13 ecoboost and it would have about 5-6oz of oil and water in it at every fill up.

Where I work our fleet is 100% Ford and I would guesstimate we have around 250 of the F150’s. We are 100% with the 5.0 coyote motor…..well besides the few F150 Lightning’s we have.
When I was in the market for a new pickup 2 years ago, I talked to our fleet manager, as I was trying to decide between the ecoboost and the 5.0. After my discussion with him I purchased an F150 with the 5.0 coyote. I have just over 50K miles on it and love it so far. I get 19+ mpg and it has A LOT more power than the V8 Trition that was in my King Ranch.
