😂 We’ve killed quite a few when my boys first started hunting with a Federal 62 grain soft point. Double lunged a few and spine shot one. All died very quickly. I don’t recommend this being someone’s primary deer killer, but it will do it. Just wait on good broadside shots. Nothing questionable.

I’ve killed two this year with my 223/77 TMK setup. Both ran about 50 yards. Both were hit lower than I wanted. The first one was a doe about 150 yards, broadside. Shot was low and back and didn’t exit. Bullet was recovered under the skin on the off side. The shot knocked her down, but she got up and ran about 50 yards. There was a drop of blood half way along her trail, but tracking her trail in the leaves was fairly easy. There was a good bit of blood on the ground were I found her. Second one was a 220 pound 8 point that was shot slightly quartering away at about 40 or 50 yards. The shot was low and angled towards the offside shoulder. I didn’t see an exit. The buck didn’t drop, but could tell it was hurt when it ran off. It bled enough that I could follow it at a steady walk without having to slow down and search for blood.
This is the first time I’ve used a 223 hunting, but won’t be the last.

My son has killed 2 this year with Winchester Deer Season XP. One did not take a step and one ran about 50 yards.

Kids piled them up with 62g barnes bullet. Everything was within 75 yards and most were boom flop.

I don’t have a whole lot of experience with shooting deer with a.223 as I have only ever shot at one using this caliber. I killed a 9 point earlier this season with the.223 using federal premium 55gr Barnes tsx placed right in the crease of the shoulder. Deer ran maybe 35-40 yards.

Don’t shoot 55gr federal blue tips…you lose them. I made the mistake on a biggun and not a drop of blood at 50 yards. I switched to 62 gr federal fusion and will give it a shot
