I’ll add…I wish my parents set me up like y’all are doing but we didn’t have the money.

One option if kids are involved that I’m doing is employing my son with a 529b putting into his Roth and investment options for tax benefits. Lord willing will be setting up my son well. I will always make him work his tail off

Short answer is that they should contribute at least the company match to their401k funds, and the max contribution is not a bad plan. It's pretax money, so that is almost like a30% bonus.

I wish I had started earlier but i didn't. In my job I see a lot of peoples finances late in life and most people have nothing to speak of as far a savings!!

No matter what advice you are given, buy land. Land one day will be worth its weight in gold.

Good rentals have also worked well for us. Someone else is paying for the house, be careful and make sure you have good renters and a good maintenance man.

It has worked well for me and my wife. My problem is we plan on leaving all of the properties to our son and daughter! Maybe they will not blow it all on one spin of the wheel of fortune.

I need to add: I drive trucks that are at least 15 years old. Look at what you can save by not making monthly payments on a "look at me" vehicle.
I am a very simple person and I have never paid over 18,000 for a vehicle to drive for myself. Put this money saved into some investment plan. You will be money ahead!

It all adds up! Make it a positive add-up and not a negative pull-down.

Save all you can, spend as little as you can. Put the saving where in good solid mutual funds. Every raise increase your saving by 1% of that raise. Take some risks in your early 40s .

Step 1: Live within your means
Step 2: Build an emergency fund so that anytime something happens like car repairs or you need a new appliance you have the money in the bank to take care of it.
Step 3: Work to stay out of debt and/or pay off debt.
Step 4: Work to contribute up to the maximum you can into a Roth 401k or or Roth IRA.
Step 5: Work to contribute up to the maximum employer matching in a 401k.
Step 6: Every time you get a raise, give all or at least some of that new money to your 401k until you reach the limit for that particular year. I think it's $23k in the coming year.
Step 7: Continue to live frugally, by buying things used, taking inexpensive vacations, cooking at home, etc...
Step 8: Retire early as millionaires, and do what you want to do for the rest of your life.

That was our plan when we got married 16 years ago. We were both in debt, Mrs. Irish was upside down in her townhouse and her car, and I had 10's of thousands of debt in credit cards, but we managed to finish raising 4 kids, had fun vacations, cooked great food, built a vacation home free of debt and in 3 months we will both be retired as millionaires with 6 different income streams. She is already retired a 60 and I will retire at 62. So it can be done, even if you are facing an uphill battle.

Exactly, none of this is that difficult.
Not really too sure why many believe they’re not capable of managing their own investments if all you’re doing is index funds/diversified ETFs.
Buy and hold is not complicated.

There is so much good advice already in this thread but I'll add: There is NO substitute for time in the market. Compounding interest is the most powerful force they can harness
