I have been covered up with work and kids activities [img]http://[/img]all fall as has my hunting partners. Couple that with the drought we had on very poor soil and we have pretty piss poor food plots, I have zero cameras running and me might have fed 300lbs of corn since season opened. No use feeding corn with the acorn crop we had..
So I’ve hunted this year solely based on scouting, natural food sources, weather and topography. Chose a spot today based on the SE wind in a 20 acre cutover this afternoon. I noticed a fresh set of doe (young deer) tracks and a good track moving in both directions. Figure alright they are on their feet. At 3:30 this guy pops over the hill and he’s definitely searching. He caught a scent and headed north for a second, where I had no shot, he stopped reversed course and came back in the opening we cut. Bang flop. This buck gave me the BIGGEST Adrenalin dump i can remember. I’ve killed bucks 20” larger than this but today was just…..intense. And all this took place while I’m perched in a turkey lounger on a massive stump with my shooting stick. About as low tech as it gets!
I realized what gave me the adrenaline dump a little bit ago as I was reflecting the afternoon. I have ZERO expectations hunting this year due to lack of cameras. I’d never laid eyes on this buck nor knew he was there. It was a shock when he walked out, then I went on autopilot, then literally had the dump with shakes and a pounding headache. I was fired up lol.
Just goes to show the east way might produce better results but the old fashioned way will leave a lasting impression. Easily one of my top 3 favorite kills.

Congrats!! Cameras have never ruined the experience for me, though.
