If you are having a gout attack, have your doctor prescribe colchicine. Warning, once it kicks in stay close to a bathroom. It may cause explosive diarrhea (I personally know this as a fact grin).

Once the gout attack has passed, go on a daily dosage of Allopurinol. It has been over 8 years since my last gout flare up. And I eat red meat and drink beer. Tuna fish is my trigger food, I have to watch how much I eat. Which kills me because I am a big fan of tuna sushi.

This is what works for me. I’ve had gout on and off for years. After trying all the other stuff, this is what works.

Like the others, Allopurinol to prevent, for an attach the Colchine is only thing besides a shot or prednisone. Flush system, cherry juice will help some, but it also will tear up your gut

Tart Cherry juice ain't worth the bottle it comes in if it's bad enough.
Go get you a steroid shot or take endomethacin and if it is coming back regular enough, get some allopurinol.

Only way mine got under control.

Flushing with water, not eating meat, tart cherry juice, even colchicine. None of those even cut it.

I hope I never get gout, my father had a lot of issues over the years. It was the only thing that could stop him from working. He made some major dietary changes in his late 60s and it helped him tremendously.

400mg of Allopurinol a day has kept my uric acid under control for the past 6 years or so. Nothing else seems to even phase it.

I've basically had Gout for six weeks, it got unbearable . Tart cherry Juice and Colcrys would budge it. I broke down and went to the Doc this afternoon. They did an ultrasound and said I had a pocket in my big toe joint and it was in my tendons running behind my toe . They gave me steroids via IV push . Its some better. I gotta go back in the AM , maybe get an injection straight in and/or try to pull some of it out. If you have it in the same joint on and off for a long time it damages the joint and you can go to a ortho guy and get it cleaned out . Who knows what else what else I'm in for.

Colchicine

Get your Dr. to give you a script for this and keep it on hand.

Take 2 at first sign of gout and then 1 more next day.

Quickly stops the gout.

The last bout I had with it, I went to pharmacy to get some Colchicine. The young lady that helped me at the register told me that her father took a supplement called Go-Out. She said it was the only thing that helped him. I keep mine controlled with Allopurinol (spelling?). I haven't tried the suppliment but I've been considering it.

Mash here to see on Amazon

I’ve had it for a week and a half so far. Six shots total that included three decadron and three pain killers. It’ll lighten up and come right back. They also gave me the Colchicine pills which I’ve taken without any positive results. I also have the allopurinol pills too. Nothing has phased it. Guess I’ll be going to a third doc in a box here in Madison and ask for prednisone.

I’ve got to do something. I can’t even walk now hardly.

Yep, steroids are your best bet now. Good luck!

First off…most doc in the boxes are nps/pas nowadays…go to an actual doctor if it hasn’t helped with the steroid shot and colchicine. They are great in certain roles but their medical knowledge is limited compared to a physician. I at this point would look at going to the ER and ask for a physician there. This would be my best recommendation as it seems like you are worsening despite adequate out patient therapy.

I think you warrant further investigation at this point with further labs/workup. As another suggested with your history, I would go see a specialist-rheumatologist if you can. Multiple decadron shots have consequences and shouldn’t be taken flippantly. Allopurinol will help prevent but are not indicated in an acute attack. My two cents though.

This ^^^^^. Those quacks aren't treating you correctly now that is gone on this long. I've been fighting it for nearly 3 weeks. I'd had all I could take , I could barley walk. A tanker truck load of Cherry juice and Colcrys don't work when it's gone on that long. Tuesday afternoon went to family doc , got steroids via IV push. Next morning I could dance a jig. It's not that hard to get at minimum , temporary relief at the Doc. Good luck.

The decadron shots are long acting steroid shots…
