A friend of my son puts together a youth squirrel hunt each year at Hollis mangt.area.We’ve took our sons and grandchildren the last two years. There were eight or nine youths this year and they all really enjoyed it. I would love to take part in that. This is my personal experience and what I see in my kids. Kids love it.

I know a lot of squirrel hunters.. running out of good woods to hunt squirrels around here… we ate a mess few nights ago. Good to hear. I love squirrel meat and so does my family. Now I will say I don't eat the brains like my grandpa did. I shoot them in the head with a 22lr. I used to get in trouble for this as a kid. Neck shot only back then. This taught me to aim and wait for that shot. Man has that really helped me hunting in general.

Most squirrel hunters these days are hunting them with dogs. As my son got older we gravitated to deer more. I really need to train another dog.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I loved it as a teenager. I went every weekend as I had no place to deer hunt. I shot them with 22 shorts. I had an old black lady that loved them and I would take them to her. When she died I quit hunting them because I will not eat them.

Small game hunting is where you introduce your children to the outdoors world--along with fishing. It is a heck of a lot more fun than sitting in a box blind for hrs on end. My fondest memories were of actually MOVING through the woods looking for squirrels. AND....it doesn't cost thousands of dollars a year to do. AND....you can wind up with a great family pet to help you find the squirrels. Now, a kid can't have anymore fun than that. Thank goodness for hard wood trees!
Remember: It aint what you shoot...it's how you shoot it.

We sometimes have a squirrel hunt after deer season. We had one last year and I had a young new hunter get his first squirrel. Made his day. I had to come up with some .410 shells though as I seldom have used my first gun after getting older. Can't wait till my grand kids get old enough.

I bet I killed several truckloads as a kid but quit hunting them years ago. My grandmother always fired them or boiled and made dumplings. What are y’all’s favorite way to cook them? Young ones fried is the best old one squirrel and dumplings I have smoked so younger ones and they were good. Me and Bowtarist tried it several years ago.

Every now and again if I have a new piece of land I need to learn I'll bust out the .22 and do a bunch of walking and bust a few heads while I'm at it.

I am looking to go once deer season ends. Planning to take my kids so they can practice shooting a little. What are some of y'alls favorite ways to cook them? Like i mentioned above, never was a big fan of them. But, fried young ones were the best. The older ones pressure cooked and then browned and smothered with gravy.

We’re getting a big squirrel hunt together on one of my leases next weekend. When I go in and pull cameras and lifelines I always get my boy and we hunt em We're shooting for this Sunday. Be the first time in about 10 years, we're finally ABLE to get things back to how it should be on the property!

I'm messing with a feist pup now. Hopeing that she will get the hang of treeing before next fall.
You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?
