I bought a Boss Buck feeder a month or so ago and I have yet to have a deer eat out of it. I put the feeder close to a pile of corn, and it took them a few days to go back to eating from the pile. I then put corn directly under the feeder and only a couple of deer will eat from that pile. I put some deer feed in the tubes. It's got sweet smelling stuff in it and still no takers. Any tricks? I know when I posted about the feeder, someone said their deer wouldn't eat from one like this. I'm going to go back to ground feeding under and around the feeder and hopefully one will take the plunge, then get the others started.

I poured lines of corn from 20-30ft away leading to the tubes. Itll take a minute but theyll eventually do it. Once one deer does it, theyll all follow suit

They might smell the feeder too. I painted a feeder once and it was over a year before theyd touch it

Lower it to start 8-12 inches off the ground. Then move it to the height you want.

Took mine about a month to get comfortable. The coons did too. Vaseline and hot pepper flakes on the legs cured the coons.

In some areas it happens quick and some areas it does not. Took a few months at my big field!! Can take longer - keep spreading corn around it

It takes a longggg time for some deer to get use to eating around a feeder let alone eating out of it. But once they do they will eat you out of house and home if you have many deer. It should have been put out 6-8 months ago then start feeding around it getting closer to it then putting feed in it and directly under it. Only way to get spooky deer use to it.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Like with most things, I didn't think about it until it was too late. I'm going to put more corn under it this afternoon. We have a huge amount of acorns on the ground too, so they aren't using the corn much right now anyway. That'll change when it gets cold. Next year they're going to be grazing on Alfalfa, so they won't use it nearly as much. As small as our deer population is, I'm not worried about how much they eat. I'll feed em all they want. If I just pour corn on the ground in a pile, I won't feed a ton between now and March. Don't have enough deer to eat more than that.

Like I said when they get hungry they will eat out of it. Keep pouring under it they will start.

If you have been feeding corn, and put feed in the feeder it's not the feeder, it's the feed. Try filling feeder up with only corn. Then mix 2/3 corn 1/3 feed, then half and half. I had a hard time getting them to start feed. But once they start...........

All I have in the feeder is corn, except for the mixed corn/sweet crap that I shoved on top of the feed, in the tubes, but that might be the issue. Next time I go over there, I'll dig out the tubes. I did pour a bag of the sweet smelling crap onto a new pile of corn that I poured under the feeder this afternoon. If that doesn't make them start, then I'll dig out the tubes. Good point and thanks.

I doubt that’s your problem fur. I got mine started eating out of it by putting deer draw in it. It’s apple flavored and scented corn and pellets. Just keep corn around it but expect it to take a while. That’s why I will put a feeder out in may or June let them get use to it for a month or two before I start feeding out of it.

Some bucks will NOT eat out of a gravity feeder.

A lot won’t from my experience.

Buy a bag of the Big & J powder and put it in the opening of the tubes. That will get their noses close to the tubes. As others said, it can take time, but once they start eating out of it you’ll need a home equity loan to afford them. Our 1200 pound feeders get cleaned out in 4-5 weeks.

Yeah - don't worry about it - they will start eating out of it - and personally, i wouldn't put a lot more under it to entice them in, i would mix in some acorn rage, Big & J, (or something you know the deer in the area are used to and like), etc that will peak their interest. IMO leave it long enough and they will start eating it. Some people think their dogs wont eat dry dog food......they just haven't left it long enough with no other choices.

Hell, im to the point, im trying to figure out how to slow them down on it - they will eat 300 lbs in a couple of days.
