I had just bought a brand new 16ft fatmax and it broke on me after using it for maybe an hour. The spool came undone, not allowing it to roll up. I bought it from Lowes. I never pulled it out more than 10 feet. What a piece of junk. I use to frame houses on the weekends for years. We always used them and they help up well. Never a problem. It has an American flag on it. Probably made in Chyna. I'm surprised it broke so quickly. Gonna return it for another one. Jeez

You’re right about that Jake, FATMAX has gone to hell in a hand basket.

CC1 nailed it on the best replacement. The Milwaukee tapes are hard to beat at that price point.

Yes the Fatmax is now junk. I’ve got a Dewalt that I like and a Kobalt that I really like, actually prefer the Kobalt. They are both wide and both have a built-in LED that actually comes in handy at times.

It’s a measuring tape not a tape measure. You can measure more than just tape with it. grin

Yes but I have a question for you? Is it a water hose or a hose pipe?

Coworker has a real nice one from Harbor Freight. I've been meaning to get by there & buy one. They're probably all made in China now

Not directed at anyone for their preference, because I like Komelon brand myself for their toughness, but I guess I'm a bit old school, key word school. I can't stand tapes with actual call outs for 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and so on. We learned to read a ruler, or in most cases now, a tape, in about 3rd grade. All of the extra #s just cause clutter and slows down reading a tape if you already know what your doing.

I prefer tick marks too. It is nice when the significant other can call out measurements and easy

I guess I’m the oddball here I carry a Fatmax everyday. I’ve tried them all and it’s my preference.

My wife used to help me with additions and remodeling jobs so she can read one about as good as anybody, but you do have a point. Lots of womens and a good many men would have to count to 13 to find 13/16ths. I guess I've been in machine shops to long now though because my mind automatically says .8125 and I can't not think that way.

Fat max 25' I've had good luck with but they seem to get nicks that will cut the piss outta you way to quick. The 16' is junk. I halfway liked the Milwaukee. But I still have a dozen or so old Stanley in the trailer so that's what I use most. None of the new ones will put up with me abusing them everyday though ...

I still use a 25’ Stanley I found in the middle of the road. It’s beat up but still works flawlessly.

I’ve tried them all and broke lots of them but at the end of the day I’ll continue to use a fat max. And I use it 5-6 days a week all day they last me about a year.
