I'm sure I'm wasting my time but, would any one have any IMR 8208 powder they would be interested in selling or trading for?

Its getting easier to find now, As mentioned, Simmons would be a good place to start. Being a benchrest shooter, I have 4 8# jugs stored away. The lot # i have is some of the original, faster burning and is perfect for 6ppc. Because that lot # is no longer available, I am not going to turn loose of any that I have. You should be able to find it on the shelf now that its returning to stock. Maybe K&S outdoors could get you some. Good luck

You might want to try H4895. I have shot and chrono ed it along side the new version of 8208xbr and could not tell any difference in groups or vel. A while back, There was talk on another board that they were the same powder. I cant attest to that but I could not tell any difference myself. IMR 4895 is different.than H4895. Lou Murdica , A bechrest shooter, was instrumental in getting that powder started. It was susposed to duplicate the old thunderbird 8208 that benchresters loved till it became obsolete. The first lot they came out was pretty close but they slowed it down because of pressure issues. I dont think that you can tell any dif. between H4895 and 8208xbr. Hope that this helps

Good luck finding H4895. Been looking for it for some time but have only seen IMR4895.

I did not realize that there was still a powder shortage. Years ago when I was testing powder, I stocked up on the lot #'s that worked well. I never thought that those powders would go away. I just knew that the Lot #'s would play out. So glad that I stocked up when I could. I even have some of the old, now obsolete shotgun powders like HS7 etc. At one time you could buy pulled down military 8208. I did not stock up on that because it did not work any better in my PPC's or my 222's. It would have been useless in my hunting rifles.

From what I've been seeing lately, Hodgdon is keeping up with demand for some of it's more popular powders like H4350, H4831 and Varget. Others are harder to come by and prices have almost doubled from 3 years ago.

Aliant powders are virtually Unobtanium and when you do find it the price is almost triple from 3 years ago. I saw some R16 on the shelves recently and it was $70/lb. Fugg that.

When I've bought powder lately, I've bought Vihtavuori powder. Very high quality and it used to be about 40-50% more than Hodgdon or Aliant. But today it costs about the same as Hodgdon so I've been using it more.

I’ve got a load for my 223 and 77 grain TMKs using TAC @ 2830 fps, but am definitely wanting to try some xbr. Maybe one day.

I've never loaded .223s with 8208 but it is outstanding for 6.5 Grendels.
