I used a big skillet the other day and it almost bubbled over but it cooked much better than my aluminum fish cooker.
What size cast iron is best for deep frying? Cube steak, fish, shrimp, etc…
I was looking/thinking about one of these.

That's a nice one ! I have the Lodge Dutch oven ( the one without the legs and recessed lid top) I use for fish frying. It's a little deeper, which allows you to do soups, chili, biscuits, and a lot of other options.

I also use the Lodge dutch oven, you can control the heat better than with aluminum pan!

. Yeah I looked at one with the legs and it would be awesome for a campfire, but not on the stove or gas cooker. So if you were just doing gonna be frying, still get the deeper one? We have a designated soup/stew pot.

Don’t look at the Lodge web site unless you want to spend some $$$.

My sister got my grandmother”s chicken frying cast iron pan…even named it after her, Lera. It is about half again bigger than the one in your picture and a little deeper. No telling how old it is and how many chickens, catfish and gov’t cheese welfare burgers it has cooked in its lifetime!

*It may be a 12” or 14”, but seems bigger because it is extra deep (I think that’s what they call the high sided ones that aren’t quite Dutch oven depth).

I’ve got an oblong one from my grandad that has a custom burner made for it. And my great grandads fish cooking skillet. It’s a high sided 12” style. My dad says he remembers seeing him cook fish for the whole church in that pot on a Colman stove. Based on the patina/ burnt grease on the outside it could cook fish on its own.

6 qt lodge dutch oven . Holds a gallon of oil to deep fry with room to bubble without running over.

Man that rekindled some memories. Grandma frying bream, bass, crappie, and catfish in one of those. Hush puppies too.

Tramontina brand 6.5 quart enameled Dutch oven. Great for many uses and usually around $50. For some reasons their smaller ones are more expensive most of the time.

I have one that has a basket and thermometer
Not sure that if it’s a lodge though

It’s very useful for numerous dishes.
