Yep. Brother and I went to a shoot in his truck, and he put them in the back seat of mine and I didn't know. Parked on the far side of my house where I didn't have cameras, and just happened to leave the damn truck unlocked. The neighborhood riders that pull on door handles struck, and nabbed them. Could see the footprints in the sandy soil under the oak trees come from the road and back to the road. I had the serial # on the Browning and gave it to the officer. When he asked about the Stevens, I told him it didn't have serial number. He looked at me like I was the criminal until I informed him guns made before 1968 weren't required to have a serial number. I really miss that browning, as it had interchangeable choke system. I also got a bucket of assorted 16ga shells when I got the gun, and some were Federal 2 3/4 number 7.5s lead shot, with ducks and geese printed on them. No telling how old they are, but those things pack a punch.

Don’t shoot one but got 2 from the 50s that have never been fired Gotta' be a GOOD STORY behind those Guns! How did they survive that long without ever being used? My granddad bought them and for one reason or another never shot them and my dad got them when he died and he just put them up and eventually gave them to me. At this point I just kinda hate to shoot one.

A 16ga Remington 1100 was the first gun I ever bought, and got it from a hardware store in Chickasaw Al. That one and a few more were stolen from me in the early’80s from a apartment in Fairhope Al. Whoever got my guns couldn’t have found a way to hurt me more than that. In the late ‘80’s I was working on a boat in the Gulf & got a call that a State Trooper In Arkansas had found some of my guns in a pawnshop in northeast Arkansas. Seem the State Trooper had purchased my 1100 for his wife to take quail hunting with him. The 1100’s stock was too long for her so he took it to a local gunsmith to shorten it. The gunsmith took the buttplate off & out fell my Alabama hunting license from two years prior. This was a trick my dad showed me and my two brothers. In his words, “five minutes with a good Phillips. head screwdriver might save you a whole bunch of heartache someday. The State Trooper & his partner went back to the pawnshop the next day(plain clothes, same as the first visit) this time armed with serial numbers I had given him of other guns that were stolen. In all, they found 7 of the 8 guns taken from me. I owe & expressed a great deal of thanks to that state trooper & the Fairhope police dept. That ol model 1100, 16ga took close to four years to get back to my hands & almost 40 years later I still have it That's a great story! We don't read many with a happy ending like that.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

Due to the lack of Doves in my area.....I don't shoot but maybe 100 rounds per season. I order my 16 gauge shells from Able Ammo...$13.50/ Box....1-1/8th ounces of 7.5's....Fiocchi. The 1 ounce loads are just too light if you are taking those 40 yard shots occasionally.

I have some 16 gauges and like shooting them, but I've just about moved on to 20 and 28s.
Lots of people like to hate on the 16 saying it throws a crappy pattern and really doesn't deserve a seat at the table due to being roughly the same weight as a 12, but throwing decreased payloads. I still like carrying one from time to time just for nostalgia sakes.
As far as doves though, last year I carried a 20ga Parker sxs and a 28ga Parker sxs the year before. There's just something about a 5.5lb sxs shotgun that points like lightning. I still use my A5 Mag 12 Stalker for dirty work though.
Yall post some pics of your 16s. I'll try to find some of mine. I still regret selling a 16ga Browning Citori to a guy on here. May have to give him a call one day.
The late Jack O'Connor who wrote a column for Outdoor Life said: " The 16 gauge shoots like a 12 but swings like a 20". As far as patterning goes.....the standard 1-1/8 ounce loads 6 or smaller shot seems to work fine for small game. And don't forget...Phil Robertson shot an A5 16 gauge duck hunting....before he got famous and Browning and then Benelli came into the picture and furnished NEW Shotguns for the show.

Remington Sportsman 48 16 gauge IC that I use on doves for at least a few shots. Was my late father in law's.
