Anybody familiar with how the pumps in septic tanks are supposed to operate? The alarm on mine was sounding...and light came on. Reset the audible alm but light stayed on. Called the man to come look at it. Said it didn't need pumping and float was working on pump & it seemed to be working fine... but the dang light is still on & if our power flickers the audible alarm sounds again. Any ideas?

i didn't even know septic tanks had pumps. But did you try power cycling it?

I assume you are talking about a lift pump, not an aerator pump?

The float is stuck. Ours used to to that sometimes when a lot of water was dumped into it at once, like when the washing machine drains. Open up the small tank and look for the float. If it’s hung up, you should be able to take a hoe, or some kind of a pole and knock it back down.

Ours stays on, only a slight sound. I think it's a short or something. I visually check mine once a week because I have a lift pump.

Was it raining?
Ground water can seep in to tank and pump cant keep up.
Or so much that water has no where to go and tank fills to level alarm
Goes off at.
If it wasnt raining alot, you have other problems.

It the float switch isnt stuck ould be a short or wiring issue in between the float switch and the alarm. You'll need a volt meter and a man that knows how to use one to check it
