I started working up a .270 load with a 110 gr ttsx . Started with h380 ,h4350 then ramshot hunter.
60 ish grains of Hunter has been the best powder I've used in 30-06 and barns online data has it listed as the fastest load for the .270 110's but I thought it was strange the max change was 65+ gr...Started at 63 gr and it almost filled the case completely. Either I need glasses or their data is bad.

H4350 was the slowest of the 3 but it was by far the most accurate.

It list it as a compressed load at max. What did you expect?

Nothing wrong with compressed loads.

Use a drop tube.

You may be able to barely seat a flat base bullet into the 63 gr charge but there ain't no way a boat tail and 2.7 more gr powder is going fit in that case. I've loaded a couple compressed loads before with RL19and 4350 but never compressed a ball powder load.

When I started rolling my own in they eighties, the Hornady load book listed a max charge of 53 gr 4350 with 139 gr bullets for 7x57. That charge would almost fill the case to the top of the neck.

Oh well. Place a bullet on top a listen to the powder crunch.

And a drop tube will help compress ball powders also.

I’ve got a load that I use in my 308 that I have to place the bullet on the powder. Lol. It’s a book max load. It’s an awesome load for me.

I ain't scared of compressed loads but I do believe that's a tad much. For giggles I did look at there online data and it shows the same thing

Yeah I bought a drop tube was surprised how much more powder you can place in case.
Just make sure if you go crunching powder your bullet seats depths are consistent that's my main concern with compressed loads.but using bullet comparator will tell you if your to compressed for consistency

Here's hodgdon with Hornady 110gr and usually Barnes or all copper bullets call for less powder .
This is why I like to use several reloading books or sources then make a educated guess at good starting point.yeah that 65gr does seem hot but I haven't looked at any other manuals to see

Yep, inconsistent loading depth is a real thing with compressed loads. Load a bullet in an empty case and use that as your baseline to compare loaded rounds.

My wife says a 10in drop tube is better than 6in but can't convince her different 😁

I also interchange bullets in reloading data.i see a lot of guys asking for specific reloading data for a particular bullet and weight but I don't sweat it and just go by bullet weight and start low and work up.use several manuals for comparison cause most times your never going to be using exact components as the data anyway.

The Richard lee manual calls for 59 gr of hunter max charge with 110 gr jacket bullet . Think I'll stick with the 4350. Gonna try some hunter with accubond 130's tomorrow.

You can always work your way up till you see pressure signs.ill load sometimes up to 2gr's over max in 3 round batches doing ladder test . usually what I do sometimes I have to pull bullets and use those for fouling shots later on but it's part of it.but alot sometimes I'm seating well beyond magazine length so I can play around with charge weights in those rifles.
Just keep loading in small batches till find max and pull bullets in the rest.what I do anyway
Then use info from those groups to start what internet guys call OCW test.pretty much what I've always done on load development

Mine loves 52 grain of H414 which is basically Win 760 behind a 130 gr Hornady SP. What made it really happy was to run some 30-06 brass thru the die, and then load it.
