Time for me to get some new boots, mine have finally bit the dust.

What kind of boots do you guys like to use for turkey hunting.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

You know what I wear and I love them. Redheads

They will go on sale at some point this year for $89.99 and I will buy my 3rd pair of them. Theya re waterproof for about a year of hard wear. I cleaned both my pairs up this year and put the paste sealer/waterproofer on them and they never leaked a drop all season. I have always wanted a pair of russels or pronhorns, but I doubt I will ever spend the money on a pair of them when the ones I have are like a pair of tennis shoes.

Thats what I had (redheads)not the zip up and they start leaking a little too much this year. I wore them for two or three years. They look kinda rough.

I cleaned mine up really well and then used the spray and then the paste on both pairs and it stopped the leaks. The old pair I have are 4 years old and I have worn them a ton turkey hunting, bow hunting, nd just working on the lease. They leaked like pouring piss out of a boot, but were fine after I proofed them. Its worth a try before you go buy another pair, but it is nice having two pairs to swap out after you wear them and sweat in one pair all day.

I went through 3 pairs of boots when I hunted in MI. The alfalfa fields were knee high and were soaking wet with dew every morning. We walked over half a mile across one 2 mornings and it SUCKED! I ended up hunting in steel toed work boots the last day of the hunt when I killed my bird up there. Hip boots would have been the only thing that would have kept me dry.

Not trying to convince anyone but I started hunting in Chippewa 17" snake boots two years and wish I did 10 yrs ago. I got the waterproof/steel toe version. If there was anything negative to say is they are just a little heavier than a Rocky or Redhead, but then again they are a real boot made in America. They are also re-soleable which is another plus. Two years of hard hunting and they are just now starting to look like a pair of hunting boots. They don't leak yet either. wink

Why would hunting boots have a steel toe?

Probably because you never know when you might have to kick the sh** out of black panther or stomp a mudhole in copperheadedrattlemouth.

If I had to guess is because some who work in the forestry industry, etc might wear them as work boots.

The pull on like I have runs about a 1/4 size bigger once it breaks in since the bottom is leather. Chippewa makes a lace up that ran true when I tried it on at Marks, but I can't say once it breaks in as I have not owned a pair. I went with the pull on due to ease of on/off. I just wear a good thick breathable sock and have no issues. They are no more hot than the Rocky's I wore for years.

It takes at least 3 pair of boots to get me thru turkey season. I wear a pair of knee-high Muck Woody Elites in the mornings when its wet, or if its raining, or if I might have to wade a lot of water. That means almost every hunt early in the season.

Then I have a pair of insulated lace-up boots for cold mornings when I'm hunting in the mountains. And I also use a pair of tennis shoe/boot hybrids for afternoon hunting on dry ground.

When hunting high land (which is 95% of the time) I wear the ankle high Cikana Mucks.

Otherwise, the Muck Classic Hosier which is identical to the hunting version except in black and mid calf length (and cheaper).

I've had a pair of russels for four years now and have never had one problem out of them. I recieved them as a guide gift I wouldve never spent that much on a pair of boots. If something ever happens to them i will get another pair of them. Just hate all the lace.

I have been wanting a pair for years but cost and wait time have kept me from buying them. One day I will spring for some.
