For that kinda money I'm going to need some added value. Yeah, like a leupold scope and 200 rounds ammo.

The number of times I passed on a $359 336 at Walmart... Yeah I remember when they were a dime a dozen. My brother bought one, wish I had. Just a great feeling and simple gun. Nice looking gun but no way they gonna sell many at that price though.

Nice looking gun but no way they gonna sell many at that price though. You do realize that the .45-70 was out for over 6 months before they went below $2500 on GunBroker, right? And the new 336's are generally over $1600 with days left on the auctions. No telling what the final price will be. That's why I maintain a good relationship with my LGS. I paid right at a grand for my Trapper. Owner said if I wanted it, he would sell to me for $50 over his cost. Luckily, I got there when he was unpacking it.

Wholesale is less than $900 on that rifle.

Can't you still buy a used JM for way less?
I bought mine used around 1990. I'm glad I did. Only $150 with the Weaver scope! Gun is a 70s model.

I know everyone keeps complaining about the price of the new marlins, but the thing to understand is they are on a COMPLETELY different level of fit/finish and quality. Also, anyone complaining about the price hasn’t been keeping up with gun prices in general. Bargain bolt guns with cheap finishes and plastic stocks are approaching $600, “classic” quality bolt guns are almost all north of $1k now, with many models closer to $2k (Winchester 70, x bolt, rem 700, Ruger Hawkeye) hell, the starting point for a savage 110 is $800, and there’s a bunch of models that are way over 1K.
This is the new normal, and that’s what it cost to build a beautiful and high quality gun. I for one am glad to have the chance to buy one with polish/ bluing that’s actually admirable, great quality wood and front sights that aren’t canted off by 20 degrees.

I bought a new V8 4WD truck in 1990 for a little under $10K. Prices change, and I wonder why some folks are surprised by that. Milk ain't a dollar a gallon anymore either.
