Well I’m half way through about 15 acres of long leaf with the chainsaw. I’ve probably cut 250 6-12” volunteer loblolly so far and probably have another 2-300 to go. I should have done this a long time ago and it wouldn’t have been as bad. Hopefully I see some improvement in weeds and grasses this year for all the work.

If you plan on burning in the near future keep in mind that its going to be a lot of fuel.......Would be awesome if you could mulch it.......

Cut them then blaze it in a year or two. Those pines look big enough to tolerate fire. You can always contact your local forestery commission and get a recommendation.

They’ve already been burned twice and the first was hot enough to scorch the tops.

If you can run a disc through there to turn over the soil and expose the seed bed. Deer need growth.

The problem with that is I would tear up roots and open the long leaf up to disease or insects.

For a decent amount of light you’d have to thin the mess out of them. They look good for a pure timber stand though.
